I had a startup rattle on 5W20 Mobil Super, it was 1/2 a quart low so i added 1/2 a quart of the Supertech HD30 (SN) and the car idles smoother, and has no startup rattle, so i guess i need a thicker oil for my next oil change, i was always going to switch back to 5W30, so does this confirm that need, or is mobil super 5W20 just a thin 5W20?

Try Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5W20... That oil is great and quiet if you want to stick to a 20 wt.

I don't think Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5W30 would let you down if the 20 wt. is too thin.

Same here... Chances are probably as good as winning the lottery...

Wait a couple days, the clatter will be back...

I knew the day would come when you recommend a straight weight. Is Max Life SAE 30 available?

Just observing...

I would not say it is impossible. Just how did the OP come to the conclusion it was louder and now it is quieter.

2003 Mercury sable Vulcan OHV V6, the oil filter is a Purolator L20195, which has an ADBV (friend took the filter apart at work one day, compared a L20195,the Pepboys brand version of it, the FL400S, and the Fram PH3600) just the bypass is on the dome vs thread for the ford part, i do beleive the vulcan is fine with it on either end.
