This is an easy one , HAVOLINE no questions about. I would pick HAVOLINE over Mobil7500 even at the same price. My Jeep has 390,000 miles and except for the first 30,000 it has had nothing but HAVOLINE, and its never had the valve cover off the engine.

I agree with Vette.....Superflo is an excellent oil for the money. From all reports available it appears to be the exact, or too close to make a difference, as MDC5000. I've used Superflo with very good results.

Having said that, i currently have Havoline in my car. I dont have documented data to back me up, but I *feel* like the Havoline 5w30 is a bit thicker than the Superflo 5w30 and for the winter i want a "robust" 5w30 that wont shear down too much.

Chances are, either one is going to do a good job for you.

I don't think you can say that the ad pack in M 5000 is weaker than Havoline. It is just different. We do not know how that Antimony in M5000 makes up for less Moly.

MarkC : 200,000 on that 4.0 inline 6 is just getting broken in, i plan to put at least 500,000 on this Jeep before i even think of getting something else. Its had 2 water pumps ,1 starter 1 fan relay ,1 power lock relay other than that just basic maintenance. The front end has all original parts and has never been lined up. The only oil used has been 10w30 HAVOLINE with WIX filters. I change the trans fluid every 8,000 miles and the rears once a year.

wow, I'm impressed also. I wonder if the oil really has anything to do with it; more so, just changing it when needed? I'm still hooked on the Castrol GTX, but the Havoline saga continues. I'm almost there.

I seem to recall that several of the really high mileage vehicles on this site have been owned by Havoline fanatics.

Well, I was in WalMart yesterday and saw that Havoline has gone up to $1.88/qt (up from $1.58 two months ago). The Mobile Clean 5000 is still $1.78/qt. They are both great oils, but which one is now the better value? According to my UOA/VOA research, Havoline has the better add pack. Is the Havoline secret finally out?

Exxon Superflo is 65 cents after rebate and its the same oil as Mobil 5000. With oil prices going in the last 2 years......its just a matter of time before we will see all 'name brand' GF4/SM rated oil above $2.00 at Walmart

Either oil is excellent, buy the less expensive oil.

-- Excellent. Mine has only 113k on it, but other than maintenence, I've only had to replace a bad oxygen sensor. Everything else is what it came with. Castrol GTX and Fram(umm, yeah I know) for the first 80K, then Chevron, all 10W30, and Napa Gold filters.
500k is a worthy goal, and since they don't make Xj's anymore, well...

Gotta love those 4.0's....they WILL last forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i wonder what jeep will replace the 4.0 with in 2007????

from what i understand is that the Mobil 5000 is the old version of Mobil that was in the blue bottles but with more detergents specfically.

Being a big fan of Havoline myself i must say Mobil definitely has some good things going for them (have for a long time)

its too bad that you can't find the regular Mobil Drive Clean formula around here anymore, it was a GREAT cheap oil that i would pick up everyonce in awhile.

Running the Mobil 7500 in my t-bird, (stored for winter) but as soon as the sun hits i think i'm gonna swap it out and try the Havoline Partial syn and maybe run a UOA.

i'm a bit reluctant to go over that mark, but we'll see what happens.

I find it funny that some think the 4.0's lifespan is diesel-like. Older 4.0s may sound like diesels with the trademark piston slap and lifter rapping, but they won't last nearly as long before it's rebuild time. Most that own early 99s and older can expect some kind of overhaul once they crest the 200K mark. Anyways.................

The inline 6 is being replaced with a V6. That's been a given for a long time now. Talk was that DC was going to use a "new" 4.0 V6 in the 07 Wrangler and it would share it with the Caravan platform or some other platform. There's also been some speculation that a "baby" Hemi option would appear as the top engine option. Seeing as how well anything with a Hemi decal on it sells these day, it may very well happen. If it does, my 97 and 98 TJs are gone in a heartbeat.

Theirs a 94 Jeep I6 4.0 sitting in my driveway with over 380,000 no rebuild and doesnt use any oil. Only item thats been replaced except for a water pump, and Maintance Items is the Camshaft position sensor(Which BTW can be a nightmare).

99, right here are two 4.0's with way over 300K on them. No rebuilds, no major work accordig to the owners. Keep up with your maintnence and see how far yours will go.
BTW, what's so magic about a Hemi, anyway?

More or less the "Hemi" craze is all marketing since everybody is wantin something that says Hemi since the average person sees That Hemi Badge and say "Ga I bet that things mean".

Thats my thoughts about it.
