I plan on using Havoline 5W20 when it comes time to change my factory fill (Honda Ridgeline) and I am using LC20 and FP60 right now. I intend to continue to use these products because I need a little extra to get my oil to the 6 or 7 K mark (that is about when the OLM puts out the service due notice).

My truck has no OCI interval as such and the warranty will be covered if you OCI by the OLM service due notice, or one year, whichever comes first. Lube Control says using LC20 can extend your OCI to 10K but that may be under ideal situations. Since you are only going 5K, the Havoline should do you very nicely all by itself - the LC20 would be just added protection.

ncirish I would add 1 oz of LC per quart of Havoline and add 1 oz per 1000 miles and feel confident that it could go much further than 5000 miles.

i regularly used havoline 5w30 in my accord to over 5k.

it worked rather well and kept everything super clean when i took the valve cover off.

it now has over 130k and still looks decent through the oil fill hole.

my sister had the car for a while and took it to jiffy lube type places and that bulk oil ruined it

(the cleanliness).

Have been ruminating on what oil to run in th wife's 06 Camry 4cyl. Thought about M1 or Pennz Platinum but the warranty limits you to 5k changes so that would have been a waste. I chose Havoline 5w-30 since everyone (just about) on here loves it and it has good adds and base oils. I added 3oz of LC to the oil. The wife drives a few miles to work only and the occasional trip to Charlotte, Spartanburg, or even Pittsburgh. Will this combo run 5k? I have it set for 3200 till the oil change light comes on but am worried after that. Would a blend be better or is that just a waste too? The short trips are what worry me.

Provided no mechanical problems, Havoline should be good for 5k. I would say anything more would be a waste.

Also agree that the Havoline with the LC application has no problem with the 5K OCI's. We use this in my wife's 01 Cavalier (short trips) with excellent results. Car currently has 65k miles on it - super clean in the top end.

You didn't mention what filter you use - that's the other half of the equation. I use WIX filters, but of course AC/Delco/Purolator/Motorcraft are also good choices. I do use the next larger size of filter to get a little more filtering done.

I am using the Thailand-made Toyota brand Denso filter. Heard that 'yota likes to give people grief if they have a different filter so it was easy enough to buy 5 when I was at the stealership the other day.

I use Havoline 5-30 with LC20 in my own cars.
You may condisider upping the dosage of LC to an ounce per qt [then an additional ounce in the crankcase every thousand miles].
I'm sure you will get 5,000 miles between changes with no problems, but I just can't go that far. I just can't.

So yall think that this combo will work huh? Seemed awful silly to go full syn but I have yet to go 5k on an oci in a mostly short trip car. After a couple of changes I will do an analysis and see what is happening. You know, it is amazing, I run GC in my 94 Nissan 4x4 (works hard, small sump, no warranty issues) but dino in the new ride. What gives?

Funny that you mention that..I had my Matrix in a few months back for them to do some warranty stuff and the first thing the SM asked me when I picked the car up was where did I get the Mobil 1 filter?

Sort of none of his business was what I wanted to say... lol
