I was reading comments on an article on Edmunds and it made me think. Has anyone else named their GPS? We named ours "Lola" like in the movie RV and still call it a her and yell at "her" when "She"s being obnoxious. It's not even where we think about it anymore.

Are we the only weird ones to have done this? It just seems easier to me to refer to it via name vs "The gps"

I change up the voice selection,so kinda depends who doing the talkin at the given time.

The name listed for the Australian voice (which enunciates better,) is Karen. I don't call the actual GPS anything.

The GPS in my FX4 is named "Betty" and I have had to turn off the voice prompts because "she" and my wife were frequently in a one-sided argument about the best way to go to...well...mostly anywhere.

I call mine "garmen" but I think Pablo had some good suggestions.

Mine used to take me on a gravel road with a cliff on one side. Took that route several times before I found the nice two lane which takes approx .07 minutes longer.

I called mine "Dear" once.

It confused the road that we were on with another on the other side of a canal that we were running next to, and demanded that I turn right in 100m...no right.

Then demanded a "U" turn...

I responded "Yes Dear"...unfortunately with a car full of family.

Yes, I call it Rand McNally. On occasion I'll use the informal version of his name, "road atlas".

It never speaks, all I need to do is view it and memorize the route. When it's not in use it lives under the passenger seat.

He's like me, a little old and in some ways out of date. But he'll never let me down when I need him and he works without any hassle or fluff. And I've never needed to yell at him, ever.

Same here. Naming your GPS may actually be more absurd than naming the vehicle it is in.

I don't mean that offensive( sounds that way I know so I apologize now )but I just don't get people that name cars and now their GPS. It is a machine not a living being. Reallly odd to me.

If I had one, I'd probably call it "Dora," after the sentient computer/ship in a couple of Robert A. Heinlein's later novels. In the meantime, I'll make do with maps.
