True, but I think he's talking about pos cars like with squeaking belts and such.

Well Nick94 I sure have noticed a sound difference between say PYB, Havoline, Kendall and the Motorcraft in that 98 Camry. Hands down it was noticeably quieter on the Motorcraft. Seriously I would not have thought that it would've made that big of a difference either. But it really did. Surprised the crude out of me.
Now in my Ford Fusion I didn't notice any real difference between Castrol gold bottle or Valvoline Synpower. In my Altima 3.5 the only oil that sounded bad was the API SN Royal Purple. Ive run Castrol gold bottle, Castrol Magnatec, Pennzoil Ultra, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, Havoline Pro DS, Mobil Super Synthetic, Havoline conventional, Formula Shell in my Altima and they all have been pretty close in terms of how the motor sounds. And all of them are acceptable to run in my car. The RP API SN is the only one that's a definite no.

Yeah, I'm always surprised whenever I hear a squealing belt. I even told this one lady who had a PT Cruiser what the reason was for the noise when she started it up. I told her that it was her accessory drive belt slipping across the pulleys when she turned the key. She looked at me like I was from outer space.

Feel that same way about my Honda. Always a loud domestic. I figure they over paided and had no monies left for good lubrication oil. But then again, I've sadly seen Hondas turbo'd and the stock fuel pump running lean trying to keep up blowing smoke out the 5" muffler can.

One a very cold morning in January 2015 with temps around 0°F I could easily hear some other vehicles running with loud motors. There were actually a surprising number of them that I heard that morning. I was driving around trying to get my lady's Camry really warmed up for her so she wouldn't have to get into a very cold car. So, when she got into her car it had full hot heat going. Anyhow, have you all ever noticed this phenomenon as well?? Definitely makes you think to yourself that some of these other car's motors are on their last legs so to speak.


Our neighbour down the street had an early 2000's Buick with the 3.8L. I am assuming the intake gaskets were leaking and remained undiagnosed. That thing would hammer and knock every morning going down the street and I was just waiting for it to blow up. This went on for at least two years. They've finally gotten rid of the car, so I am not sure what happened but I was simply amazed at how long that thing lasted sounding like it was going to come apart any second.
