Have you ever owned a "dream" car you really wanted?

Of all of the cars I've had, only two I'd consider 'dream' cars;
1) Land Rover Series III-Always wanted one since I was a child, had toys of them, etc., never really saw them growing up. Too much time watching Wild Kingdom, Born Free and similar w/ parents and grandparents.
2) Air cooled 911-Even after we bought our water cooler 996 in 2002, I longed for a G body 911, wide body preferred. Found our 993 late last year...close enough to count.

When I was quite a bit younger, I wanted a 1972 Mercedes 280SE 4.5. I couldn't afford it then, but some years later I purchased a nice used one. I kept it for a few years and enjoyed driving it quite a bit. It was a great highway car, and very comfortable.

Yeah I agree. I wanted a 1969 300 SEL (since it was faster that the 'Vette at the time) but never got that.
I'm pretty close now with my E300 (not quick, but it'll go fast).

So now my dream car would be a 2019 E Class Convertible, with all the options that my current car has, but with the Turbocharged straight 6.

BTW, my current "dream car" is truly a dream, in that it doesn't exist. If Mazda makes another lightweight, well balanced Wankel powered sports car.
Like an "R" version of the Miata (double entendre: "R"acing and "R"otary) with the RX-8 engine. That would be 2300 lbs. and 240 HP naturally aspirated. A little lighter and much more powerful than the current Miata. Zoom-zoom!

My first car was a 1936 Ford 5 window Coupe that was restored. I had to sell it to pay a hospital bill. I hated that' It was very special to me. Next dream car was 1984 Porsche 944. Loved driving it. Just wish it was easier to get in and out of. The 1936 Ford Coupe was one that I rescued from a junk yard.

I used to lust after cars so bad. The dream car was always the next one I had to have. Fortunately I was also plagued with being stingy and hating debt, so I lived frustrated, apart from many dreams.

jeep ZJ. Bought it too late in life. Loved it. But it was tired and needed to be taken out back and shot. Loved it. Traded it eventually. My son cried and cried when it didn’t come home.

turbo s60. Definitely a good dream and experience. Bought it cheap, fixed all the things. Blended it traffic, super comfortable to drive, an elegant vehicle, and it had the goods. It was a mistake to part from it.

2 s60s before that. Sigh. One was a mistake (sold the ZJ for it). The other … was a frikken warhorse that I bought cheap, fixed all the things, drove for a few years then gave to my teenage daughter. She drove the wheels off of it until the cost for parts alone started eclipsing its full value. It was towed off last year.

I lust for bmws. Yet every time I just about buy one, ergonomics just end the deal - can’t get right in the seat, fingers hit the windshield while steering, or in one case, the passenger seat back flew apart on my wife and the cooling fan was detached from the… car.

I bought my f150, exactly as I wanted it. Extended cab, full bed, 4x4, larger gas tank. It’s a great truck in so many ways. I dreamt of it for 3 years. I plan to keep it a long time, but the “shine“ wore off.

I figured it out. I have fallen out of love with every car I’ve “loved” in precisely 18 months.

I bought my Lexus after another failed bmw hunt. The GS is a good car. I’ve considered trading it several times. I can’t. I can’t risk it - it’s been sooo gooood. I could see myself trading it for a newer one, and I’d at least like to test drive the smaller 4 turbo.

lust for trucks seems to have past. It’s a tool. I like mine. The midsize, sleek sedans? Dangit this thread is not a good one for me.

From a young age I wanted a late '60s to mid 70s XKE Jaguar. I've had an MG and a Triumph TR4 but never got that Jag.

In 1966, at age 19, I sold everything I owned and bought a 1964 Corvette Sting Ray convertible. It had a solid lifter 327 with a lumpy idle and a 6500 rpm red line, Bright red.

Had that car for 10 years and 200,000 miles, and sold it for more than I paid.
...
That is a sweet ride for sure, and one of the first production engines to produce 1 HP per ci. And what good longevity / durability.

Yes, honestly.

First dream car was a diesel w123 Mercedes because they were "the greatest car ever made." Owned two!

I wanted a Volvo wagon with the see-through headrests. Really wanted a 240 but settled for a 940.

Saturn "sports wagon"-- seriously. Greatest car I ever had, and in the green color I wanted too!

F150 with the 300-6 and stick shift-- had two: One 4x4, one 4x2.

3rd gen firebird, check. Wish I got a V8/ stick, got the 2.8/ auto. But it had the T-tops and played my Skynyrd tapes.

RV? Check. 23' "Jamboree Searcher."

Motorcycle? Yup. 82 Virago 750.

May go for a snowmobile someday. Looked into renting one, $400 per day. Jeezum!

When we were kids back in 1990 , our parents bought our first new car - a 1990 Mitsubishi Mirage 3 door hatchback.
While in the dealership , my younger brother and I were ogling over the showroom vehicles - 1990 Eclipse GSX and a 1990 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 .
I loved both cars but really loved the interior cockpit styling of the Eclipse the best.
Told myself at that time I'd have one , one day.
Fast forward to 2003 - Co worker had one he was trying to trade at the dealer we worked at , a 1990 Eclipse GS-T (stock and unmolested) , exactly like the one in the picture below.
It needed work , but I ended up buying it for $650 , had a huge dent behind the passenger side door where his daughter hit a pole .
But it was fast and it was my "dream car" .
A drunk drive rear ended me and totaled it a year later in August of 2004 .
But it was fun while it lasted.

I went to HS in Detroit suburbs 1967-70. Some of my friends had fathers who were auto company executives. They got to drive a lot of the latest greatest muscle cars and we'd cruise Woodward Avenue in its heyday, but I was less affluent and always a passenger. So, 700 hp, a manual transmission and retro styling made the dream come true for me.

no. Needless to say my finances wouldn't allow it.....😁

If so, what was the vehicle?
Yep. When I received a promotion, I went out and purchased a brand new 2006 Pontiac Solstice in silver with a 5 speed manual. That was my dream car, for me, at the time, and I loved every minute I drove it. It was perfect. It was a dead match for my brother's Z4 in straight line speed (neither were fast, just nice) and it actually handled slightly better and had better steering. Where his Z4 clobbered me was on cargo space, but who cares?

I only paid $22k for that car, brand new, with my Dad's GM discount. Drove 2 hours away to get it because local dealers weren't honoring that discount.

I wish I'd never sold it. It was just so much fun to drive.

Not sure about "dream" but I did want, and did buy, a VW TDi Jetta Wagon. Diesel power and economy, manual trans. Longest time I've owned a car (11 years), it was what I wanted. Part of getting rid of it was to make sure I did not overvalue the car: cars come and go too easily (accidents), no sense in shedding tears if something that can't love me back suddenly goes away.

There are a few that I might like to have now, but no particular lust for anything anymore. But if I hit the lottery (that I don't play) and could buy a barn where I could properly store and display whatever I wanted...
