I see all the time people hating on fram. I used to a while back (for no reason) until I bettered myself by doing research mainly on this page. But constantly you will see someone post a 15 year old video on Facebook with some loser comparing a high end filter to a Fram extra guard (orange can of delight). And nothing you tell these people will change their mind it seems. They have no evidence of anything. But they would rather kill off a family member then use a Fram filter...

I don't know what it's going to take to change these people's minds. I mean geez they are already making awesome filters. The ultra can't be beat!. Efficiency numbers don't seem to mean anything to these morons blindly Fram bashing... These numbnuts are just so [censored] bent hating Fram. Chances are they have never used a Fram filter or been burned by one before.

I would like to see Fram succeed as I have become a fan of them and like that they are made in America. But people would rather buy a Chinese or Mexican made filter as long as it isn't Fram...

Running a Fram TG currently. I previously used some Motorcrafts as well that seemed to do a good job. I may go back to oem after this interval since they only cost about $4.25. Fram, MC, OEM all seem decent to me.

Jay on here from Fram does a good job of responding to posts and personal messages.

Despite peoples' hatred and their ability to spread them on other forums all over the internet, Fram is still succeeding and has been. I wouldn't be surprised if competitors' have tried to use the same argument against fiber endcaps just to hurt Fram's name in the past but I wouldn't put it past a company to do so.

I have been using Fram TGs for years consecutively and don't plan on changing unless I am given evidence I should. I now have all the vehicles using Fram filters. Father's F150, father's Grand Cherokee, my Grand Cherokee, mother's Grand Cherokee, Cub Cadet lawn mower and my motorcycle.

Not all...I've seen some cartridge filters from China in the orange boxes.

The Ultra is a nice filter, I still can't bring myself to use an orange can. When I was 16 the local auto parts store had a cut open PH8A orange can and a Wix sitting on the counter - that display was all I needed to see.

American manufacturing is very important to me, one thing I have read on another forum sometime was the fact that "frams used to be a good filter, but they quietly moved production to mexico and the quality went downhill."

Now whether you love or hate fram I believe that statement was False, but I was not a member on that forum and didn't want to join just to correct that false statement, or at least I believe it was false.

Where are Fram Filters made? I thought it was Ohio? Can anyone explain what Plants make what fram filters?

I have used Fram Orange filters on my vehicles before over the years, I may have one on the scion right now, I cant remember lol..., I have a Tough guard on My cub cadet mower right now, and I have a Tough Guard ready to go on my scion, an ultra ready to go on my JD mower, and currently have a ultra on my Van.

I have also used STP, Bosch, Toyota, Honda, Mobil1, and many others im sure. I am by no means a fram fanboy. I will use them without worry, but on a vehicle I really care about it will get a Gold can if I use a fram.

I believe that Fram Extra Guards are manufactured to meet a price point and they are a good filter for the money overall. My only concern is how well the endcaps seal everything, but I suppose that is possibly a concern on any filter.

The rare Joe or Jane Six pack who still changes their own oil for whatever reason will go into Wally world and buy the cheapest filter and cheapest oil they can find. Fram Knows this and needs to make a "cheap" filter to meet that need. I feel we are definitely in the minority here as far as our interest in oil and oil filters go. The average Joe could care less, the car wont be worth anymore money when they go to trade it in if they used the best oil and best filter money can buy, so in a way they have a point.

I'm guessing that was 20 years ago? The current ones look perfectly fine to me.

Does anyone have any links to pictures of old fram filters? I used orange cans quite a bit 20 years ago until I started working at a quick lube then it was penzoil filters while i worked there, curious what changes there have been.

Can anyone elaborate on the changes made?

You would think Purolator with all the media tears would be getting the Hatred.

I cut open several Fram orange can and Ultra's and never seen a problem.

Cut open two Purolator off my sons car and both had tears in media.

Fram is an easy target because of their size. They're everywhere, and people recognize the name, as well as the bright orange filters. Add to that the fact that so many of the OCODs are sold every day/week/year that by sheer law of large numbers, there are bound to be some major QA failures..

.. If Fram only sold 50 OCODs a year, odds are good that nobody would ever hear about a bad one. Sell 5 million, and at least 1 of those is going to have some sort of random problem. No production line is flawless.

Then add to that the problems that WERE around, at least for a short time, years ago, and now you have a portion population that refuses to let go of those failures.. and then those people spread their stories around.

The same thing happens with Pennzoil, and the horror stories of their older products "causing sludge" - I must admit, even I wound up in that boat for a while, avoiding Pennzoil like the plague.. at least until I came here and found out differently.

Live and learn, right?

Back in the day when I wasn't a DIY, I used to get my oil changed at Walmart and they used the OCOD every time without issue. Only after joining BITOG did I read about all the Fram hate on the internet. I use the TG & Ultra on my Hondas and they're great. My Infiniti's engine, though, randomly became noisy the one time I used a TG. Maybe I got a defective unit but if it wasn't for that, I'd run Fram filters on my entire fleet.

OCOD is overpriced cheapo filter.

if I was going to use OCOD I might as well use a pronto/jobber filter etc.

Fram ultra is a nice filter, fram TG is an good but overpriced filter.

Fram ultra is actually my goto filter for non-hyundai/non-subaru vehicles.

I was anti Fram until I joined here, had always used Purolators. Now I'm 180 different from that!
Nice being able to get oil and a filter in one spot at Walmart. Although Fram only makes an Extra Guard for my LR3 (would prefer a TG, since I run 6000ish miles) and my KL Cherokee, the Mopar filter from the dealer is the least expensive. My Liberty and XJ Cherokee I run TGs on. No plans on switching.
