Hastings or Mahle

I just got a Mahle filter for my Volvo at International Autopart. We have them in New England, don't know if they're also in SC.
Volvo guys like Mann filters best - but if Mahle is OEM for your Porsche then go for it.

Mahle makes top-notch filters. It is a known quantity AFAIK. Hastings at one time made an excellent product, but I haven't seen one in a while. They may still do so.
If the Porsche dealers are now using Hastings, I wouldn't worry too much. Otherwise, you can't miss with a Mahle.
Us Volvofolk do prefer Manns, but we "suffer" with Mahles from time to time, too.

Mann and Mahle filters are favorites among VW owners too. They are built with the care of obsessive compulsive quality, a great thing.
same here for bimmer owners. i know most of us use MANN or MAHLE... great filters. i personally use MAHLE.

FWIW, Hastings and Baldwin are both Clarcor companies and have the same address in Nebraska.
Baldwin makes exceptional filters. I've seen them on tractor and truck appications when I was in Nebraska. My cousin farms about 2 section and with his pulling tractors, trucks, semi, autos, etc he SWEARS by Baldwin.. which makes Hastings.. which makes Casite.

We went through this a year or two back. Filter Guy gave us the low down on it. I'm uncertain of the specifics (that is, I don't remember). There isn't a 100% interchange on filters ..so I can't see it being just a rebadge operation in the consolidation. They have a number of common numbers ..but others have no cross between them. That leads me to believe that the merger/cosolidation was limited to the managment/financial end of things ..perhaps R&D too
They surely had their own established markets.
Confirmed. I just looked up a late model Acura TL oil filter on both sites. The online catalogs work identically (you can't tell which site you are on without reading the name) but the filters were a bit different in size and some of the cross overs were to different cars.
The person I talked to this morning at Baldwin Filters says there is no difference. They are all made in the same building. Some people have become acustomed to buying only Hastings while others feel better at buying Baldwin. She said it was all one company, and no, CLARCOR does not make their (Baldwin/Hastings)filters, they make their own filters and it's a joint partnership for corporate reasons.quote:

For us obsessive Audi owners it is Mann or Mahle. Been tempted to try Wix, but cannot find the correct replacement
