Here are some specs I received from Hastings re: the LF-110 filter (Motorcraft FL820s equiv).

LF110
Flow Rate (gpm)@PSID
2 @ 0.5
3 @ 1.5
4 @ 2.5
5 @ 4.9

Does this mean that the max flow rate for this filter is 5 gpm? Not sure what the correlation in between the gpm rating and PSID?

Other spec items listed.

Media grade = L80-48 (no clue)
Estab. Micron Rating = 23
Average efficiency = 75.76%
Hydrostatic burst psi = 200

I would think a filter that only filters down to 23 microns at 75% would have a fairly high flow rate. Would appreciate comments.

The relationship between gpm and psid is exponential. The recommended max flow rate is probably 5 gpm. The bypass valve probably opens soon after that.

Very nice. This is the kind of info we need. That is good to know.

As far as that being the max...I suppose some filters do have bypasses as low as 7psid.
Mine should be around 36psid. So I think I can safely say it well almost never go in bypass except maybe when very cold.

I was wrong about the relationship being exponential. It's a power curve.

You ME's and ChE's should have caught that.

The pressure drop looks like a function of the flow rate raised to the third power.

At 7 gpm you will see about 13 psid.
