Has Mobil 1 0w40 dethroned German Castrol?

Over here, you can find TQ 5w-40 for about $6/quart and free shipping if you buy enough of it. However, it's often possible to find Mobil 1 0w-40 for the same price or less when on sale at local auto part stores, which doesn't make TQ all that attractive.

Shell Helix ultra 0w-40 6.77€/l
Total Quartz energy 0w30 5.62€/l
Mobil 1 0w-40 7.81€/l

Total Quartz seems like a real bargain as it meets MB 229.5 which is no picnic. 5w-40 oils are around 4-6€/l. All the prices include shipping for a 25 litre order.

Are those Total prices cheaper than the US prices if one orders online (within USA)?

I know I switched from GC to Mobil 1 0W-40 in the track Miata a few months ago. It had less to do with Mobil 1 being a better oil and more to do with the local Pep Boys no longer stocking GC after the Edge rebrand. I liked GC, but I don't feel strongly enough to pass up a locally available but robust oil so I could special order it.

^^^You might be better off (performance wise) with the M1 anyway, despite it's lower group 4 base stock content (than GC).

Is the "GC" we see here still the old PAO-based version? I was wondering if that had changed with the various reformulations the oil has gone through
