Has anyone seen Durablend 15w-40 ?

I bought a six-pack of the stuff at Napa about a year ago...used it in lawnmower and 86 Ford Taurus...it was on sale...I think $2.99 a quart...I will go see if my local Napa still has it...dunno...

NAPA should have it, or can order it. I had a case and ran it once. As I recall, according to MSDS it has more Group I oil than the 10w40 Durablend, so I stocked up with 10w40 at the time (still have 16 qts) as I could run it in winter, vs 15w40.

Saw it at Pep Boys some time last year. Not sure if they still have it.

Hmmmm... I looked around also with no success. No biggie.

Thanks guys for your posts! I'm sure Durablend 10w-40 would be a fine alternative.

One more thought: Mix 10w30 and 20w50 Maxlife 50/50 and you will get 15w40. Maxlife is better than Durablend anyway. Get PAO and Moly in the mix.

TallPaul- I like the idea! Right now I'm running 75/25% of Maxlife conventional 10w-40 and 20w-50. What does that make my oil??

My car never used or burned oil. Before Maxlife, it was on a steady diet of Mobil 1. Anyhow....

So 10w30 and 20w-50 will give me a 15w40. Interesting.

I think you're responsible for turning me on to Maxlife.
BTW, I tried Valvoline's online oil-calculator and it suggested Maxlife Syn for high temp environments. Under 75K it suggested Synpower. What's your thoughts about mixing any of those two oils with Maxlife?

The blending calculator puts your 100C viscosity with the 75/25 blend t 16.25 cSt, which is borderline between a 40 and a 50 weight. The W number may remain a 10 but certainly towards the 15. Hard to say unless we know the base oil viscosities of both oils.

Yes, you would get about a 15 cSt 15w40 with a 50/50 mix of 10w30 and 20w50 Maxlife. I figure the W number goes to 15 simply by the 50/50 splitting between 10 and 20, crude, but probably about right.

You can mix Synpower with Maxlife. I like Maxlife Synthetic better for the 30 weights as it is more robust (higher HTHS) among other things like moly, and meets ACES A3. For 40 and 50 weight the Synpower is rated quite well, meeting ACEA A3. Since the MSDS for Synpower 20w50 says it's PAO, Synpower 20w50 would be a great one to mix with the 10w30 Maxlife to get a 15w40.

TallPaul- Thanks for that! I like it. Too bad Maxlife synth only comes in 5w/10-30 grades. It's also getting tough to find the stuff! My NAPA carries it. But I haven't been able to find it at a Chinamart or AZ. I need to stock up when a sale happens. Weird how the Valvoline brochure does not mention any sign of it.

If I hadn't visited this site, I'm sure I would have passed it over for Synpower.

Look in rebates forum. Pep boys has a valvoline deal on Synpower and both maxlifes for a dollar a quart after rebate. I just got my form at Pep Boys haning by the oil. Will have to go to NAPA to get the Max Synth. No mtter, it's a Valvoline coupon, not Pep Boys. Napa charges $6.50 a quart.

Thanks TallPaul! I'm all for the synth. Napa charges $6.50 though??? Whoa!!!!!! There has to be a better place to get this stuff! I saw some Old Maxlife "SL" awhile back on a clearance shelf. Didn't buy it. Wish I had...

The coupon is screwy as it says Maxlife or Maxlife Synthetic and then says send 5 bottle rings and the UPC off the carton, but with the syn it's two cartons. Well all I can do is try.

Yes, wish it were cheaper. At $6.50 a quart a failed rebate would be very costly.

AZ was selling for $3.99 and then pulled from shelves. Supposedly restocking, but one AZ told me over $6. I will call and see what's up, but AZ probably tossed the cartons.
