Hardware "rewards"

Our local hardware store (one of them) has a rewards system. Present your card at time of purchase, and the computer tallies up a year's worth of spend.

December, you get a gift voucher for 5% of your spend.

This year's gift voucher was $20...I've had them as high as $120 a few years ago.

Problem is, that when you know your voucher is 5% of what you spent...you know what you spent

If it was spent at a hardware store, it was probably worth it!

I'd prefer they just lower the prices 5%. Now if it were a true profit-sharing co-op, that would be different.

This type of program is nice if you have to buy stuff for work and then get reimbursed.
