From another forum..."I have a 2011 Kia sorento with the four cyl, manual trans, and front wheel drive. It doesnt matter the weather. the initial start it is hard to shift into second. once you have been thru the gears or let it warm for a bit it is fine."

I think the gear oil spec is 75W-85 GL-4.

Would a premium manual transmission gear oil either help this shift feel, or if it didn't help indicate a mechanical problem?

Which premium gear oils meet this spec?...Red Line and?

Nearly every manual that I've owned is a bit tough into second for the first shift.

Make sure that it IS a GL-4 lube first.

R16, We found (25 years go) that semi synth Valvoline 75W-85 did the trick every time.
Holden 4 speed, GTX 20W-50 worked, until I got the Renault stuff in it.

My Nissan performed best on Mobil XHP (GrIIIish), but I can't get that, so have http://www.nulon.com.au/support/specifications-list/251/#.UtcvodI0VcY on it at present, and after the first 1,000km, it's great.

Redline MT85, BG Synchroshift II, Pentosin MTF2.

Search a couple threads with Hyundai. Molakule posted some viscosity levels for many fluids. Hyundai has a TSB for the Genesis to switch from factory to the Pentosin. In my Sonata the Redline MT85 is better than the stock was but not as good as the BG it replaced for the 1-2 shift. I'm going to try Pentosin next time.

+1 on the manuals I've driven. Always seems to help, or let it idle in neutral for a bit to get the fluid circulated.

Try putting it in 2nd gear with clutch in, before you start it. Then shift to what ever gear you need.
