We've had baseball sized hail around here about once every other year, and golf ball size hail frequently.
Smallish hail dings on a dark colored car will often pop back out on their own in the summer heat.
I'm sorta surprised that 1.5 inch hail would damage a vehicle.

Not all hail is created equal. Some is much softer than others. Thousands of vehicles are dented from this storm. My insurance co.(one of the biggest) has brought in their catastrophic damage team to access the damage and process claims. Got my check today for $2700 so will have the body shop do their thing very soon.

Just make sure it's not one of those curb side dentless repair shops. They literally chase hail storms througout the U.S. Once they have finished, they pack up and move overnight. Wifes new CRV got nailed about a month ago and just got it back from the shop two weeks ago. You can't even tell. The guy that worked on it owns a body shop and said he chased hail storms for about 10 years. Now, I'm not saying all curb side dentless repair guys are rip offs, just keep and eye open and use your best judgement. I did ask him that if this car gets in a hail storm again, would the next time require body work since the metal has been "massage" back in to place and maybe weaker? He said no, especially with Honda, Mercedes, BMW's and one other maker. He said that those manufacturers use a different type of metal alloy that can be "massaged" over again.

Thanks, I don't like driving dented cars, but my insurance co. will completely stand behind the shops work, so this is more hassle than anything else. So far, everyone has seen the car says no paint will be required. Hope that stands. Would like to drive this car to 225-250K.

This is a union shop with some painters that have 25 years experience. I have had minor work done by them in the past, and I can't tell their work from the original. Also my insurance co. will take care of any complaints I might have.

Thanks guys. I was a little disheartened when I first heard the news about the hail damage, as the Fusion really doesn't have a scratch on it. Thanks to my insurance carrier and the body shop that did the work all seems to be fine.

The Fusion is White and the Focus is like a Gun metal gray.
If I buy a Fusion while is the color I'd get. I should search but am lazy right now, yours have the 4 or the 6? What MPG have you been getting?

That's a great result. Back in the mid-90s, a Marine Corps friend of mine had a red, early vintage Hyundai that was his commuter car in Orlando. It was caught in a devastating hail storm, and ended up looking as if someone had taken a ball-peen hammer to every upward facing surface. Took out some glass too. The insurance company declared it a total and paid him off. They even let him keep it, driving it with a salvage title, which he did for several more years. We used to kid him that his mere ownership of, and presence in, such a vehicle, constituted conduct unbecoming an officer (
