Had a Road Rage Incident Today...

I think the old people were jerks when they were young and now think they can get away with it because of their age. I feel sorry for their spouses. Age is not an excuse for bad behavior and taking a chance on causing an accident.

this or something close to it has happened prob 10 times this year.

Don't ever get me started... I wrote about that phenomenon in another thread. I played that game with some [censored] for 60 miles a few years ago and never even once changed my speed. And he was the one that kept looking over at me like I'm the one who's an idiot.

drew i notice that a lot when using cruise control - i'd drive 100km at 99 km/h on cruise and overtake some cars 3 times over...

You try and avoid trouble ..and the action ..well.. it seems to act like a magnet

I see road rage everyday in Miami and Fort Lauderdale...It is even worse when the snowbirds arrive [and hit the brakes at green lights] which is coming in the next few weeks.

I had a bad incident the other day just pulling out of my driveway. A woman who was stuffing her face with what to looked to be a donut, did not do a full stop at a stop sign and as I was pulling out of my driveway got right on my bumper and layed on the horn and then proceeded to try and pass me. As she was passing me on a residential street, I noticed her stuffing her face with this donut and giving me the finger at the same time. You just gotta feel sorry for people sometimes.

If I am being tailgated I will deliberately slam on the brakes, I also try not to tailgate for that same reason.

Washing the windshield usually gives them the hint in a non-aggressive manner that won't get you a ticket for reckless driving or inciting an accident or whatever Officers Friendly feels like since you getting rear-ended interrupted their for once quiet patrol. There's a lot of spray blowing over the windshield at highway speeds. Once they hit the windshield wipers, it's either passing or backing off.

The ones who tailgate and flash their lights when I clearly can't do anything about it, such as being behind slow-moving traffic smack in the middle of a miles-long construction zone, are annoying as anything.

It often seems folks think they own the road when they're in a hurry, and others should move away to aid their progress. It's not my problem you didn't plan for that slow-moving tractor, construction zone flagman, or 2 minute red light. Don't endanger my life due to your lack of planning.

Bang on. Everybody gets old (if they're lucky), even jerks. It's the sense of entitlement that sometimes goes along with it that amplifies the jerk's jerky behavior.

If someone is the first in line, and I'm behind them, and they are going 65 or below, then I won't tailgate, but I'll get close enough for them to get the hint to get out of the way... ESPECIALLY if there are no cars in the center lane, because I try to avoid passing there if I can help it.

I used to get wound up about this stuff.

Finally having a 3yr old and 4yr old in the back or at least the site of their child seats just has me hit the brakes and let the car go. I never look at the nutty drivers or acknowledge them. However I think that may make them more angry.

I almost rear ended somebody the other day because the guy in two cars in front of me decided he was going to go 5mph in a 45mph zone. I think he was drunk. He didn't even stay in his lane. Started switching lanes right about the time I was trying to go around then I noticed he was driving in the middle of the two lanes still going 5mph. Later I thought what would have happened if my boat was behind me. ARRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!

You have to adopt a certain Zen while driving in traffic.
Sometimes, you just can't get around the slow movers, and you can't allow yourself to feel frustration or anger.
Some people cannot do this.
Some people feel that being passed is somehow an afront to their manhood.
Those who perpetrate road rage incidents are their own misery.
They are probably destined to die young.
They probably suffer hypertension.
Imagine how much bottled up anger and frustration these people must have.
We are who we are, and those of us who have never grown enough to become comfortable with ourselves as we are will sometimes act out.
Road rage is a symptom of a deeper personal problem.
Still, why should you or I have to deal with, or be endangered as a result of, the personal inadequacies of some anonymous stranger?
Those with phones glued to their ears, those who text, and those who cannot drive a couple of miles without either stuffing their face or sucking on a pop are a danger as well.

I like that.

Still, I do catch myself exclaiming, "WHY?" when the car in front of me stops in the left lane when we have a green arrow finally noticing that we have the right-of-way just about the time it turns yellow.
Now I'm stuck for the full cycle of the light.
A friendly short tap on the horn only raises their eyes to the rearview mirror so they can "find out who the [naughty word] behind them is" They never bother to find out why the short tapwas sounded.
Just breathe-in, shake my head "no", and make certain that I put a little more distance between myself and this, drugged up, or drunk, or just plain stupid person.

They didn't notice the light because they were too busy talking on the phone, texting on the phone, stuffing their pie hole, or sucking on a Dew (or maybe a beer).
You simply look back at them with no expression.
They may figure out why you tapped the horn, but they probably won't.
You tap your inner Zen to calm yourself, and you think of more important or intersting matters.
I sometimes wonder how our economy has survived as well as it has, given the lack of awareness and general sloppiness so many of our countrymen exhibit in their daily lives.
If you can't even drive a car well, without getting angry at everyone else, what can you do?

I like that idea. I used to "brake check" tailgaters with my old car as it was worth 200 bucks on a good day and more responsive than the one behind me due to its light weight(or so I thought at the time). I no longer do this as 1. My truck is worth a lot of payments that have yet to be paid, and 2. as I grew out of teenager-early twentyhood I learned my life is as well. This is a good "back off" signal that endangers no one. If someone keeps tailgating, depending on what kind of road, I either turn and get back on, slowly decelerate and wave them to pass when no one's coming or just pull over and wave them to pass. I'm no angel, sometimes I get mad at slow drivers but I'm no traffic blocker and if someone's tailgating ME they must be really fired up. I just want such volatile people away from my precious, undented truck so it stays undented.

I came across a BMW 750iL driving 45mph in the left center lane of a 65. Cars are rocketing past us on either side. Finally get an opening to pass and who's driving?
Methuselah.
I'm not begrudging him for being elderly and driving a 7-er. No sir. I hope that when I'm that age that there is enough left of my 401K and IRA that I can drive something nice instead of sitting in the dark in an efficiency apt eating cat food.
But why would you get "The Ultimate Driving Machine" and not drive it?
Happy motoring Methuselah. I sincerely hope no one rear ends your beautiful car or goes road rage on you for your ultra conservative speed.
