This morning I walked downstairs and discovered a dying Amazon Echo. It was over 10 years old and was always hard of hearing. Good riddance.

Ordered a replacement at 8:30 am and had it at 2:33 pm. It was one of the new cheap Echo Pop's. I like it. It sounds better than any small Echo device I have had, plus it fits in a small nook above the microwave. No mush mouth nasally sound. Just had to put the bass in balance with the mid's and treble. Dang good service for a $28 order.

That’s pretty awesome I don’t know if Amazon provides same day delivery in my area

Great service for sure - they don't want to miss anything on their spying of you.
Oh well, I got spied on dozens of times today making stock trades. If you have a cell phone, your spied on. Bank of America does a online strip search on you, whenever you need help over the phone.

Oh how times have changed.

Yeah, I'm not interested in having "smart" devices in my house. I kinda prefer being the smartest thing in the room. Besides, I don't really need it to be easier to blow my own money.

Here we go. If you have Amazon music-it's an amazing library. You can say "play this album by whatever artist". I am assuming you probably don't do streaming or pay for Spotify, Pandora, XM etc., either...right?

My kids went in together for a Spotify family plan. We're mostly a earbuds or headphones music family.

My oldest daily used cheap electronics is a Chromecast bought in 2013 for $30.

I finally went to upgrade to modern one now called Google TV and it won’t turn on our 2010 Sony Bravia and show picture without futzing with inputs even on proper input.

The old Chromecast can turn on TV /flip input if you intitate from phone app.

My Denon AV receiver died 2021. It was super annoying as we were home so much.

It was a 7.1 I think 60w X 7, and cost $198.

The replacement? It’s a Sony 5.1 (I only have 5 speakers) and like 40w x 5 and cost $280 back then. AND it weighs about < 1/2.

The receiver was 11 yo and already from the disposable era. But far superior to its replacement. My guess? Heat destroys electronics.

What is the point of one of these? I’m genuinely curious.

You can just sit there and say hey “play this song, google this etc?

Ours was free years ago when renewing FiOS. It sat in the box for years.

We don’t have any paid music, so my wife uses it when in the kitchen to ask for a certain genre of music. I don’t use it to handle smart switches and lights or devices, but it could.

Mine are pretty dumb, but they sure make good food timers. Pay for themselves in food not being burned and thrown out.

i caved in when we got new HVAC and the thermostat was online. For me it was a combination of do I need it and security.

One very useful application is the front steps/porch light. Now, it can go on and off when we are away from home. People used to go on vacation and simply leave the front light always on, or off. A clue nobody is home. I also use smart switches to turn off chargers (not critical).
