Wow it's been like 8 months. And I drove my Hyundai out to about 6,000 miles which I never do between changes because of past oil reports. But man, it's 50 degrees here, and raining...in January. I just had to. 97,117 miles. Valvoline Max Life Synthetic.

It felt good to change that oil but I forgot how dirty that stuff is!

I've gotten to the point where I just change my oil every 6 months in Spring and Fall so I don't have to deal with an oil change in mid-January/February. Could I run the oil longer? Sure.
But since I like doing my own oil changes it's a more a labor of love.

I just changed the oil in my Mazdaspeed 3 today too. 14 months since the last change and 2700 miles. Used 5 quarts of Castrol Edge EP 5w-30 and 1quart of Edge 0w-40 to make up the 6 qt sump. First day we've had that's been really nice.

lol, whatever the temperature is outside, its colder (hotter in the summer) inside of the busing company warehouse/shop where I rebuild my engines and do all my car work, and I have no dedicated or personal heater either.

whenever my hand are freezing (every 10 minutes) I rub them together until they feel warm LOL.

Note: I do love the cold though, but when I'm working on cars, I'm in a zone that even if I'm hungry I don't realize it, forget the extreme temperatures.

I know what you mean, I removed all the parts on my Lexus LS400 timing belt job running on a single cup of coffee

Yep. If you put between 10k and 16k on your car as most people do, that works well.

I take my Ford in for the $40 change which is on perma-special most places. This site has done a good job of convincing me I don't need extra-early or synthetic oil changes.

That's what I do. Thanksgiving and Memorial day are about six months apart, so I change my oil over the long weekends to avoid having do it during the summer heat or winter cold.

Ha. Down here in Da Swamp, both of those dates are likely to be sweltering hot.

I miss changing my own oil. But living in an apartment complex which has recently banned "working on or washing

cars on the premises," and since I don't really have a place to store ramps or room to use 'em, I have to have my changes done. Right now, it's CPO oil changes at the Buick dealer; after June, I'll buy my own oil and filter and bring 'em to my regular mechanic.

There's a sense of accomplishment, "a job well done," that goes with doing your own work, isn't there?
