Honda GVC 160 with low hours. The pump that the factory fitted to the engine, really puts a very intense load on the engine. I noticed that the area of the pin that is in the aluminum bore of the block has wear on it, and the area that the plastic cam spins on the pin has very little wear. This does not make any sense at all. The pin cannot rotate, and there is not really a way for the pin to wear in this area.

Conversely, on all my junk parts engines that range from GVC160 and GVC190 the wear is exactly in the area it should be, and that is the section the cam spins on.

Ideas? The internals, the cam, and valve train looks like brand new.

Any chance the cam gear seized onto the shaft and spun it? It wouldn't take much to bend that flimsy little tab on the valve cover.

I think the end of the shaft has one side that is square from what I remember. It sits against the valve cover and keeps it from spinning. I could be wrong, but that is what I remember.

When you say the pump, is this on a pressure washer? Per Honda's site, the GCV160 is spec'd at 4.4hp, and the GCV190 is 5.1hp. I've always felt the GCV160 was fine for a lawn mower, but a bit under powered for a pressure washer or log splitter. I have a GCV190 on my pressure washer, and it definitely gets worked hard. I even tweaked the governor a bit (not recommended) so it runs at 3700 instead of 3600 since the engine was free. 🙃

Yes pressure washer. Its a 2014 era date code and the o-ring on the pin failed.

No the pin never rotated. It as still locked in place by that tab.

Yes it is underpowered. With the trigger held, you can reach to the governor and open it wide, and you will not get extra speed out of the engine. It is working at full toruqe and is giving the engine a real a$$ whoppin.
