My first post on BITOG, thought I'd post up the video I did a while back.
I was surprised by a few things in this test.

I was surprised by a few things in this test.
- Light gun oils at room temp aren't necessarily fluid at below zero temps - Hoppe's 9 in particular.
- Slip 2000 EWL bills itself as being good down to -100°F, which can't possibly be true since it was basically grease at -20°F. From their marketing literature: Slip 2000 EWL has a temperature range of -100 degrees F to a +1250 degrees F so it will not freeze, become sticky or tacky or slow down in cold weather.
- CLP had a really strong showing. I have a general dislike of CLP because it was all we had in the Army, but for this test it was decent.
- Mil-Comm MC2500, despite being pretty reasonably thick at room temp for a gun oil, did not completely turn to sludge/grease. Anecdotally, I have shot an AR-15 lubricated with MC2500 at around -20°F (click here for video) and while it felt marginal, it did run okay.
- Lucas Oil "Extreme Duty" Gun Oil, despite being listed for -38°F, was solid grease at -20°F.
