Just wondering if anyone in the Northeastern United States has been able to locate GulfPride motor oil. I have been to numerous Gulf service stations in southern NJ and the Philadelphia, PA area, but all of the Gulf stations I have visited carry a wide array of motor oil ranging from familiar brands like Shell to some really obscure brands I have never heard of. Strange, but these Gulf stations do not sell any Gulf branded oil which seems kind of odd if they are franchises or company owned stations. Supposedly, the GulfPride sold in an eleven state area around the northeastern US is made by American Refining Group from PA grade crude and I was interested in trying this particular oil. Anyone out there have any experience (good or bad) with GulfPride motor oil made by the American Refining Group?

The only places I have ever seen GulfPride motor oil was at Cumberland Farms convenience stores and PathMark supermarkets. It was pricey at both places at over $3.00 a quart. It was made by the American Refining Group but, I have no idea how it is performance-wise.

When we had Gulf gas stations down here in The Swamp ('80s and earlier), they sold Gulfpride, and we used to use it in the delivery vans at Purolator Courier. Didn't know Gulf was still around anywhere!

i think they are general in the North East and upper mid atalantic region. Unlike Shell the gas stations aren't selling their own oil. I picked up a case today at a oil dist. Hopefully I'll send in VOA and UOA soon.

Gulf is just a licensed brand name now, Chevron bought the actual company and all that really remains is a holding company that handles the name around the world.

Assets got distributed around as needed, the Gulf stations in the US license the name from Chevron. The lubricant brand is seperately licensed to American Refining Group in the US, and the gas stations are mostly operated by Cumberland Farms.

Gulf has been a non-entity since the mid-1980s.

True but thats the story behind the name. For me I find it intersting that Gulfpride oil is made from only penn oil so I wanted to seeif it was any good. Checking the data sheets the Gulfpride and Brad Penn oil seems to be the same from the regular dino to the syn blend, that is where the Gulfpride stops. It doesn't make a full syn. So we will see.

A SIDE NOTE

That's a name I havn't seen for a long time. My dad went to work for Wilshire oil at the refinery in Santa Fe Springs,CA.I then name changed to Gulf Oil. He retire as a Director of Maintenence just as it changed to Golden West. Just a note of history.
