I'm going to be trading the current truck, decided that I'll not use the GCF on the next truck, will downsize to a Frantz since the next truck will not see the high miles this one did. I'm throwing this up here for exposure (feel free to move if necessary).

Its an GFC 0-1 that uses full rolls of paper towels. Will include two or three GCF elements (bought from GCF) and the plates to use regular paper towels. Its still on the truck, but will be removed sometime in September.

PM me if interested...might also be interested in a partial trade for a Frantz.

deter16317 - how many miles on your truck that you're getting rid of, out of curiosity?

I made my point in the other thread, so I'll not duplicate my rantings here. But curious, just the same.

168k...bypass was on since around 50k (when I learned about them).

I used it to safely extend oil change intervals, can't help that oil didn't hold up, the Schaefers is doing much better. I'm having injector/fuel delivery issues currently, which is not uncommon in this truck, or I'd be keeping this truck. As it is, I'm reverting back to a 12-valve CTD-powered truck as soon as this one goes away.

I went with the GCF because it provides similar filtration comparable to a Frantz, but with a 10k FCI. I typically drive 1100 miles/day when traveling, and changing filters every 2500 miles (Frantz) wasn't going to cut it.

The next one will get a bypass, and be used in a similar fashion. I like bypass filters, and will continue to use bypass filters on my diesel-powered trucks.

Steve, I'd jump on your GCF right away, but my frantz has done me justice over the past couple years. Plus I only drive my truck around 2k miles per month, which makes the frantz easy to deal with. I would also be losing money since I have alot invested in the lines that my hydraulic shop made and a case of the frantz rolls.

If anything this would be the best place to get rid off the GCF. Good luck with your 12 valve when you get it.

"I used it to safely extend oil change intervals" ... The BEST reason to use a bypass filter; glad to hear it.

You didn't mention what type of vehicle/engine you're getting out of, but it sounds as though you're making a rational decision, rather than just "wishing" your way around the lot.

I have a 2004.5 Dodge 2500 Cummins...its the Common Rail, with all its electronics. I'm stepping back to a mechanical engine (the 12-valve) that has literally two electronic controls.

I must admit that I'd not been aware of fuelig issues with the common rail CTD. I've alwasy considered the 5.9ISB to be bullet-proof. Not saying you're wrong; just news to me.

When an injector costs $400 from Cummins, meaning a set is $2400; I've been told that the steps I've taken to prevent injector failure is second to none (filtration and additives); and I still have injector issues...that puts a very bad vibe in me...

Not to mention my incurable leaking pinion seal...70mph vibrations (that took a $1800 kit to fix)...and the fact it isn't even a comfortable truck to drive.

I have my reasons...and as far as fueling issues, on most of the larger CTD forums, I would hazard a guess that about one in three is fuel system related.

Steve, you just replacing the 24 valve with the 12 valve in your current truck? Or, are you selling your truck altogether and gonna find a Dodge with a 12V already under the hood?

If you do the engine swap, PLEASE take pics and keep me updated. I think the 12V CTD is as bullet proof of an engine ever made. Those things can make and withstand sick power.

I thought that the EPA really ruined the greatest engine that ever went in a pickup. The 12v was cheaper to run and own. One of my ex-girlfriend horse woman has owned 3. She misses the original 12v.

Swapping to a 12-valve isn't an option, the emission requirements are starting to get more restrictive. I'm selling the 04.5 and buying, what I'm going to focus on anyhow, a 1997 2500/3500 4x4 CTD. Besides, that's a little out of my range right now...

I'm not against the 24-valve...I owned a 99 that served me VERY well for 201k (only replaced two lift pumps). My dad has a 99 24-valve, it has 280k with no engine problems (other than lift pumps). I dislike the common rail...

I'm just looking to step into an (almost) completely mechanical controlled engine...no electronic injectors, no electric pumps, no electronic control sensors. Just a tractor meant to survive life at 65mph...and one that I can do 90% of the repair.

I guess its all about what you want in a diesel...I outgrew the high horsepower bug in my teens driving a very hot 440-powered ramcharger...I'm looking for absolute reliability out of my truck, one that only needs to get me from A to B.

I've done 900 in a day. That's a long day. Even @ an average of 70mph ..that's nearly a 16 hour day behind the wheel.

Actually, I have driven 2100 miles straight...about 32 hours, when I was younger, and stupid.

I can drive from PA to Washington (2600 miles) in 2.5 days worth of driving...1100 miles/1100 miles/400 miles. With a range of 500 miles (just to empty my aux tank, I still have 38 gallons in reserve), you don't stop often...that's where you make your time.

I find it funny when I get passed 15 times by the same car in my trip...and end up in the same hotel parking lot that night.

Hmmm, I was thinking $175 for filter and the spare elements plus shipping. This is the 0-1, not the little guy. That'll be the thing that throws most people off, its big.

It'll be a few weeks before its even off the truck.
