GS300 AC Compressor

Hey all,

My friend has a 2002 Lexus GS300 with a bad AC compressor. When we tried to recharge the system, you can hear a leak from the compressor area. The mechanic confirms that.

The cheapest remanufactured compressor I can find online is about $250 and more. Used units are about $120

I prefer to get a remanufactured unit so we don't have to do the job twice.

Does anybody know of any local AC compressor rebuilders in the Dayton/Columbus OH region?

I would just pay the $300-$400 for the Denso unit if you plan on keeping the car. A recharge will cost you $150 if the local rebuild fails...which wipes out any potential savings.

So a new dryer with a new compressor makes sense. What about age? Do they ever get replaced every 10? years?

No, AC dryers and expansion devices get replaced every time the system is opened. Bits of the old A/C compressor damage them every time.

That is also why you must flush out all lines with AC cleaning solvent.

On some cars, you are stuck replacing the condenser as well.

The AC books will tell you to replace the dryer every 4 years.
