Not to thread hijack, but I think carpy makes the point of not hair-splitting on oil selections. To me, proper oil maintenance is what's most important. Shure, figure out what spec/weight/basestock/cost is best for your application but then simply practice common sense service and your'e done. Myself, I come to BitOG because it's almost impossible to find anyone around who shares this as a hobby. I find some of the smartest people on the internet here, who have crafty ways of looking at the lube industry, a thing that most mortals have no clue of. I consider myself more of an oil snob than an OCD sufferer.

For the sake of clarification, Delo 400 is not A3, it is ACEA E3 and E5. I was not able to find any HDEO with A3 ACEA certification. Unlikequote:

in US, these oils are not considered universal in Europe, I guess.

Motorguy, I don't know what part of the Bluegrass you live in, but I live in Jeffersonville, In. which is right across the river from Louisville. The Walmart by me has had Mobil Drive Clean in GF-4 for several weeks now. It still says SL in the donut but refers to GF-4 on the label. $1.17.If you're not too far from there it's probably in the Louisville stores. If that helps any.

In Chevron's PDF, it makes no mention of that spec A3. Is A3 assumed to be contained in another, more robust specification? BTW...What does the A3 spec mean???

I notice the pour point for Delo is -23f. What is the down side to using this in an engine that calls for 5W30? From everything I have been able to find my 2.7L Chrysler 24V DOHC is brutal on oil. This seems like a good choice especially in the summer. Or is it too thick?

Delo would be just fine in the summer. Your car will crank over in winter, but it might be tough on the coldest of days. Pennzoil's Long Life and Amsoil's 15w40 Blend offer a pour point of -33 for that added winter protection. EDIT: It's only 2 degrees C more protection. I doubt it will make any difference in real-world useage whatsoever. Sorry for the hair-splitting here!
