So this filter was off of a friend of mine that travels a lot. Off of a 2014 Cadillac ATS with the 3.6 direct injection engine. Whatever oil the quick lube used and this filter. I installed some PP 5w30 and a FRAM ULTRA. 78,xxx on car. Made October 6th, 2014 and 1st shift and Line "D" in Fayetteville NC.

YUP! P.O.S. JUNK. Told him "I don't wanna see this car ever again with that filth screwed to the engine!" He watched me cut the filter open too

The Champ filter I took off my Accord this last oil change was torn as well. I'm taking pics this weekend and posting them. First torn filter for me and it's not a Purolator...go figure.

A little bit of a built-in bypass never heard any body. Probably good for another OCI, at least!

On a serious note, I wouldn't buy that filter again, but also wouldn't sweat the tears.

I won't use them or Purolators. That's just me especially when I can get a Pro Select or Pro Tec under $4 at NAPA I can walk to

This is definitely the same issue I saw on the Motorcraft FL820S filter. In this case, it is much worse. Once the pleats on either side of the splice begin to collapse, tearing will occur at a later date.

Purolator has not resolved this issue.

Thanks for the cut & post.

Obviously this filter is yet another example of imprecise cutting methods. There is no way this filter could have torn on its own...

Too subtle...

No ... he's actually serious. You just haven't been around long enough to understand that.

This was once a pretty good shop filter for about a buck wholesale in quantity .. We used this filter for 25 + years and went through probably thousands of them with a very few problems at the shop up until about 2 years ago when all the tearing and other quality issues started showing up then we dropped the whole line and got another filter company which is still used. I since sold the shop but work closely with the guy who now owns it.

Back in the day that filter cost was even less... As i stated above it was once a good filter although i never cut open a filter until about 8-10 years ago so who really knows for sure. Now i would stay away from them.

That is the TRUTH.

Still waiting for the "Apologetics" to post.

If jk_636 is talking about how Purolator is cutting media, then I need to start eating crow. If he is talking about how some folks are cutting open the filters then they should be able to open one without destroying evidence. That is why I bought a filter cutter. This makes a clean and safe cut.
