I have a 2019 Impreza that takes a group 35. The 25 and 35 have identical dimensions from what I can see but the terminals are opposite. If I turn the battery around where the terminals are on the correct side but on the back of the battery as opposed to the front, does anyone know if there is enough slack for that to happen?

Would look something like this.

Reason being, I may have a line on a 25 without having to pay for a 35. If you look at Odyssey, the size and specs are the exact same. CCA, Ah, RC, etc... The only difference is the terminal layout. It comes down to free or not.

My Impreza has some zip ties. I might try to cut them and see if it will reach. If it doesn't fit then, it's not a problem.

The ground/negative is kept short and close to the unibody on the driver fender for two reasons: first, Subarus are already quite infamous for engine ground straps with terrible longevity and therefore the electrical system needs all the help it can get; and 2nd, to prevent people accidentally on purpose connecting the positive & negative terminals in reverse order under any circumstances.

Will a group 34 fit?
Possibly, if the frisbee tray is removed and discarded. But a 34 would also likely need longer J-hooks to be able to secure the battery. There’s also the very real probability that if it is 1” or more taller that it either won’t fit under the hood, the cables won’t reach that far, or both. No way in Hades would I be driving around with a loose 65+ pound cannonball under an aluminum hood.

A 34 would put the terminals in the same position as the 25. I just replaced my Legacy's battery with a 24 which is a common replacement as is a 34 for the stock group 25 battery. The 24 was longer than the 25 but same height and depth. The 34 was the same length and depth as the 24 but shorter by about an inch.

For the record, you are ALL correct. I could make the negative reach but there was not enough slack for the positive. Needs another 1 to 1 1/2 inch. Oh well... I tried.
