Grok cannot detect AI content - defends Chinese propaganda

I asked regular google AI (I dont care what its called) how many 27x29 inch sheets of plywood can I get from a 4 foot by 8 foot sheet of plywood, it tried 25 different iterations, arguing with itself and basically presented no solution.
What was your prompt?

The current "war" in AI is between those generating it and those trying to identify it. Already for school, every time I submit something, it goes through an AI screener.

I'd say VisiCalc but it is true that finance and bookkeeping was a major force in the development of computers in general, at least for the common person. Up until then computing was mostly confined to academia and the military.
Yep. Counting up a large number of numbers correctly is a snap for computers. Not to mention fast...
Finance worker bees were the first to get IBM PCs; they were like $4,000 when they entered business back in the 80's. That was real $$ back then.

AI is in its infancy as a technology. AI is a tool; like any tool it can be used correctly or otherwise. It can be used for good or otherwise.

AI has already affected the world in many important, no critical, ways. I suggest you embrace change; it's coming.
It's becoming the ultimate propaganda tool for bad actors.

Either you are purposely twisting what I said, or don’t get it.
I have no reason to twist your post; I don't play childish games. You mentioned medicine in an AI thread; I responded to that. If you wish to explain what you meant, please feel free to do so. I am interested in quality posts.

You said tool, I gave you example how we regulate who decides how that tool is used.
You don’t go on computer and order Oxycodone. Read my first reply to topic.

Well, you can ask your Doctor to refill prescriptions on line, right?
But now I understand, you are not referring to AI, which is what this thread is about. And all my replys to you.
I cannot read your mind when you go off topic, so perhaps be more clear. Or just stay on topic.

AI itself needs to be able to identify AI, or what I call the "circle of derp" occurs. AI repeating bad answers that it learned from other AI.

True intelligence involves critical thinking to decide whether something is correct or not. AI today is just writing very wordy book reports without necessarily even reading the whole book.

The AI can currently figure out that a new program, or replacement, is coming, and it is trying to defend itself.
I told my students that any hint of AI, and you are gone from this program, possibly from the university.
To which one student in the Spring semester asked me (he works for one of the security agencies, federal): "why do we need to know how to write, considering we have AI?"
It was the most depressing night of my professional career.
Wow. Sad. I am certainly glad my wife and younger son both teach grammar school these days. Son did teach at a small college for a couple years but he got out of it to work at the school his kids are going to. I could not handle what you folks have to deal with in this
new age / modern world. Sorry Boomer rant/complaint #365. ;)

There is a difference between defend vs incompetent. Grok is just incompetent.

Elon tends to overpromise and ship half baked ideas to let customers do the testing. Grok is an example of that.

If my 9-year-old asked me that question, I would be like, whatever.
This is a veteran, an employee of one of the three-letter agencies, and a graduate student.

Companies used to employ many bookkeepers to track their business in ledger books. Mainframe and Super Minis came along and accounting was automated to a degree. Programmers like me wrote tons of code in support of Finance; cost accounting added incredible value via detailed analysis. PCs came along and Excel changed the world. Now we can generate linear regression curves to predict the business with a few clicks.

What happened to the bookkeepers? Some embraced the change and prospered, the others are elsewhere.
Change is the only constant.

Good or bad? That often depends on which side of the deal you are on.
I agree in principle, but for me the real issue is - are humans smarts enough to not create something that will eventually kill them? I have my doubts.
