I’ve had a Weber Q large size for a very long time. We don’t grill that much, maybe a few times a month on average, a little more in the summer, less in the winter.

The center burner in it seems to make a lot of yellow-orange flame, while the outer ring of burners is still blue, maybe even undersized compared to when new. The grill will get up to around 600 when left burning full high heat, just like when new.

Is this a sign that the burners need replacement or service?

I use the torch tip cleaners to clean it. The simple one usually works and if not then the drill type one always does. Also the tank is full right? Once it goes down it behaves more like that.

Gas burners have to feed a mixture of both air and fuel into the burner to get the nice clean burning blue flame. The air is introduced in a mixing venturi at the front end of the burner pipe and is powered by the fuel gas shooting through a small orifice on the end of the gas line. Any kind of foreign material in either the burner pipe, mixing venturi, or partially covering the gas orifice, can upset the way the venturi works and alter the air/fuel ratio, resulting in yellow flames. Mud daubers and spiders are often the guilty parties.
