I was driving up the 51 yesterday and heard a loud stone hit my windshield, looked around for damage and didn't see anything. A minute later another one hit and a star chip was clearly evident! 🤬 There were no trucks and barely any cars around!

Decided not to use insurance even though I have glass coverage, made an appointment with Safelite for this afternoon and they came to my house and took care of it in 15 minutes. $175.

I've used them in the past, they fixed a chip in my ATS in 2013 and I remember it only being $50 (might have been insurance deductible). Replaced the windshield in my Mercedes E350 in 2014 and they did a great job. I strayed from them with a windshield replacement in my 2015 Grand Cherokee and tried Gerber, it was a nightmare!

Next windshield repair/replacement will be Safelite. If you like your windshield stay away from Phoenix! 🌵:ROFLMAO:

I had an absolutely horrible experience with Safelite. They scratched my paint and when the camera defroster and key fob antenna didn’t work, they basically told me to take it to the dealer.

Your Safelite experience seems to be very dependent on the installer. There are many MANY 1 star reviews for Safelite.

I agree. Five or more years ago when I visited professional vehicle glass installer forums, Safelite was considered bottom of the barrel due to two reasons: 1.) they over-saw their own glass manufacturing that produced poor quality vehicle glass and 2.) their business model forced store owners to way over book jobs, stretching the capability of the employees.

They did away with their glass manufacturing and now source from the same places as everyone else. That puts them on a more level playing field with everyone else. So now, AZjeff is even more correct - your results depend on the the individual installer, just like every other establishment.

It's amazing how much windshield replacement has changed the past 10 years. It is more difficult to identify quality brands of glass and now there are calibration procedure for in-glass sensors.

100% dependent on the installer. My friend who lives on the other side of the state about an hour and a half away has had nothing but nightmare experiences. I've had all positive experiences so far. 🤷‍♂️

Are they still using in house made or Pilkington glass? From reading recently the quality is hit or mis after they started using cheaper Chinese glass.

This I had a new Pilkington windshield put on my XJ years ago. Guy was fantastic.

You can request different brand glass otherwise they will likely get you with Fuyao

Is pilkington not good? I ask because my 2018 is riding around with one from them. I’ve had no issues and used them a few times. As many miles as I drive it should be more than that.

When I bought a windshield for my 67 Camaro from Pilkington in Columbus Ohio, I talked to their tech service department.
Asked them who should I have install it?
Answer: we're not really allowed to recommend installers.
OK, then can you tell me who not to go to?
Answer: Safelite
OK any other advice?
Go to your local auto body place with a good reputation and ask them who does their installs.

Worked out well for me.
