Cheap guns are the best guns ,,unless it is a really high end 1911 type, then the high cost is love and appreciation [worship] of the piece.

Are these tested for accuracy before sale? LEO trade-ins have a lot of rounds through them.
I doubt it.

I would not think they have much through them at all, or at least no more than a civilian would have. I would wager they shoot just fine.

All LEO trade ins I’m aware of have a lot of rounds through them from the range. Maybe it’s just common near me.
i guess it comes down to what a lot of rounds is considered.

using an arbitrary number of 5000, i would say that the pistols would be broken in.....they arent 1911s

Police trade ins can be great. GT Distributors often has very nice examples. If you have one close to you get on their mailing list. The Glovktoberfest sales are fantastic (not just Glocks).

I shoot 30 rounds a year to qualify through my G21, if I go to a few classes during the year I might shoot 200 rounds in total through the year. I have yet to go a 5 year period without a new sidearm.

Holster wear, yes. High round count, not anywhere near it for a Glock.

Now, if we're talking about the high-speed low-drag guys in the department, yea they'll shoot a little more, but really not that much more.

I’m just familiar with the state cops at my gun range every week shooting a ton. When I say a ton, I mean a lot more than 200 rounds a year. Trade ins are luck of the draw. Sure, could get a gun from someone that barely shot, or could get one that has lots of rounds through it. That’s my point.

I have seen pistols with 20k+ through the pipe, original barrel...........still with great function and accuracy. I have an XD9 with close to 15k still shoot great. A bunch of +P+, and steel cased......... I have replaced a striker pin and a spring.

I think it depends on what some one calls a bunch or rounds. You can destroy a gun in 500 rounds, given the right circumstance.

My most recent purchase of a police turn in (a Glock 21) was typical of what I’ve seen in a police firearm.

Some holster wear on the slide where the weapon was slid in and out frequently. Some seatbelt/buckle wear on the outside of the grip frame.

Somewhere between 500 and 1000 rounds total in its life, and it was never cleaned.

It’s out getting a custom stippling job to compensate for the wear, and just because I feel like experimenting. It shoots great and feels great and doesn’t need the custom job.

But for about 300 bucks, the gun was an extraordinary bargain.

If you are military, or Leo, look into the Glock blue label program.

Otherwise, a police turn in can be a bargain - a gun with some cosmetic issues but low wear.

most police officers, especially the ones from a large metro are shoot their gun very little . its usually at qualifications . to them its just a tool of the trade and ammo cost money. The leo that is a gun lover though will shoot a lot more than the average.

i shoot a lot of comp pistol stuff and the leo that show up are usually firearms instructors and do very well. the run of the mill ones that show up usually perform poorly .

on the trade ins subject, i have purchased a few . most of them were beat up a little cosmetic , but very few rounds through them. some of them are even new and were probably unissued guns from the locker. Glock and SW have/had a great trade in program for depts. its one of the reasons glocks dominated the leo market in the past. they would litterally give you new model for next to nothing out of pocket

I mentioned the G21 I bought. Had some custom stippling done. Really pleased with the results.

The reason I bought a police turn in, was so that I didn’t have a whole lot of money in the gun. If this job turned out poorly, I would not have lost very much.

But it turned out great. The logo was crisp, the feel of the stippling and the frame is great, and they really did a nice job.

are you going to have the slide parked of leave as is? My vote would be for as is. Has character.

That Jolly Roger stippling looks amazing!!!

I have a friend thats LEO, He shoots a lot but he is the exception. Most of his fellow officers don't shoot that much.

Guns carried a lot but not shot that much.
