The "J" is the latest iteration of the venerable C-130. Its RR AE2100 engines are limited to about 4000 hp each by the airframe but they can put out 4000 hp under any conditions. The previous models' Allison T-56 engines put out 4000hp under perfect conditions. The old T-56A-7 engines I worked on wouldn't hit rated power when fresh from the depot under standard day conditions.

I always thought that the -15's on the H,and P models were rated in the neighborhood of 4900 shaft hp.

Nice video! I've been on a few C-130s over the years and I noticed a difference when flying on a J model. Could you image the news reports and complaints if a C-130 crew tried flying like that in the states over a populated area??
 
These are great planes. These types of planes take off and land all the time at JBLM. But I never see them doing these maneuvers!! And I never see the back open like it was in the video.
 
Those smokey -15's may be capable of more than 4000 but the airframe limits the power output.

A "J"s engine only time-to-climb is quicker than a previous model during JATO.
