OK this may be a stupid question. Or at least ignorant.

I have polyurethane bushings and there is a zerk fitting there to grease them with. Is it enough to apply grease via the zerk or do I need to manually apply grease along the outside?

Here is a photo to make it clear. Must grease be manually applied in the area that I have marked in black?

Agreeing with both posters... just a note that the fitting should end up greasing the OD of the inner steel collar (the ID of the bushing).

I actually just converted my 4Runner to poly bushings and drilled them all to be greaseable. Super-lube grease with PTFE works great and they are smooth and silent.

Reason I'm asking is that it would be nice to not have to apply grease manually and instead just shoot it with the zerk a few times and be done with it.

The instructions that come with the control arm don't really make it clear. Hence me wondering whether I'm supposed to manually grease that marked area or not.
