greasing a u-loint

Hi all,

My truck has servicable u-joints. It doesnt have a zerk fitting though.

Could you give me a run-down of how to service a u-joint, and what kind of a grease fitting to use to do it? Also, how do I know how much grease to put in?

I would think a servicable u-joint has a zerk?

On my u-joints, I just pump the lever and push the grease into the joint via the zerk until clean grease comes out all 4 cups.

If your zerk came off, you should be able to spin in a new one. Otherwise....I don't know what you are talking about? Maybe I am getting old?

Does your serviceable u-joint have a screw, hole, or a ball-in-hole that can be pushed in?

You need a grease gun needle. You should be able to find one at any decent auto parts store with the grease guns.

You push the needle into the ball and pump.

XS650, I don't think that's the proper tool. Your link shows what is more of a surgical needle to penetrate rubber. He needs something more robust.
