plan to open up and re-grease my scooter CVT. scooter make is SYM. Taiwan scooter and the CVT is pretty similar to most Chinese scooter like GY6.

manual recommended some sort of King Mate G-3 grease. a little search about that grease and all i can find is as the link below. G-3 might mean NLGI 3 grease?

currently i have a tub of Bel Ray waterproof grease on hand. will it be suitable for greasing the CVT? or should i get some moly grease like valvoline synthetic grease or Redline CV2 grease?

thanks.

No reason to put grease into the variator. All it does is help muffle the rattle of the rollers when you start to move.

It's not worth the hassle. Because as soon as the seals leaks, you'll end up with grease all over your belt and drive faces and it's a mess.

On my 1986 Honda Elite 250 (Spacey), I never greased the rollers.

I am not greasing the rollers. It for the bearings and rear pulley.

Like the final drive bearings? Just use gear oil.

For the sliding sheave in the secondary driven pulley? I'm not familiar with that brand of grease. It'll probably be fine but you have to be careful that it doesn't melt off and contaminate the clutch material, clutch bell or driven faces

thank guys. apologies for not making myself clear.

it more for the sliding coupling of the rear pulley.

Bel Ray grease is quite popular among dirt bike. guess I will try it first and look at how it hold up after a few thousands miles.

Thats why there are O-rings on the shaft of that "sliding shave"
I had opened it once...just to se if it needs regreasing....and grease there looked like semi liquid one....NLGI 0....with addition of MoS2 (it was black)...I am guessing...like that for CV joint for car...

And that was original grease...so that is what piaggio/gilera is using in their scooters...

For rollers in front pulley...mallossi is recomending to lube them with tad of their ptf grease....probably just lithium grease fortified with teflon...

Yeah, but if it has a really low dropping point it could work it's way past those o-rings.

GY6 manual ask for grease that can withstand working temperature of 230F.
