hey guys, need some help. i have an engine (427 ford sohc) that uses an open roller bearing in the timing cover and seems to get little splash lubrication. can anyone recommend a grease for this application??

Grease will wash away it will get some splash on it but for assembly use a moly grease will help till oil washes it off.

Bruce is right. I can't imagine that bearing running dry. There's got to be some splash/misting. You'd be surprised how little oil (or grease) it takes to lubricate a bearing.

thanks for the help guys. Mark at Specialized Lubricants recommended Schaeffers 221 #1. we'll try that and see how it works out.

most 2 strokes gets their lube from a 50:1 mix. most 2 strokes are also using full roller bearing bottom ends.
if a ball bearing on a 2 stroke crank can survive decades on the lubrication from some gasoline and a pinch of 2 stroke oil, than for youre application, even the slightest misting from the engine would keep that bearing happy forever.
