What kind of grease does everyone use for the ball on the tow hitch? Ive got some amsoil series 2000 racing grease that i use for my driveshafts. Thanks.

I use some unused Lucas. Before that just what ever grease was available.
whatever the cheapest grease you can find. this isnt a critical application. most people dont even know you are suppose to grease the ball and go decades without doing it.
I never knew balls were suppose to be greased... so like the others I think anything will do when it probably isn't even completely necessary since most people never do it and have no problems.

The thing to do is to grease the ball, but avoid getting it on your clothes when the ball is not being used. I'd say any marine grease since its more waterproof.

I've been using Mystik JT-6 Multi-Purpose High Temperature Grease (Red)to lubricate everything. Bearings, grease fittings & towing ball & other hitch hardware.
I've noticed that on long, cross-country towing trips that the grease on the ball would dry out to a black, very thick substance that didn't look like it would lubricate, at all.
On one of my trips, I stopped in at a travel trailer dealership & bought a "Hitch Ball Lube", "Towpower" from Reese, part # 58117 (4 oz. jar). On the jar it says,*White Grease, *Odorless, **Non-toxic, *Will Not Breakdown, *Reduces Friction, *Superior Lubricant.
This stuff is a bit pricey but, it hasn't broken down, at all. At the end of a trip, it's still very greasy, unlike the Mystik JT-6 Grease. Also, a 4 oz. jar looks like it will last for a long time. A little goes along way with this stuff.
Mystik JT-6 Grease is supposed to be a high quality grease & i've never had any problems with it but, it doesn't even come close to the Reese Towpower white grease.
Normally, I wouldn't spend the money for the Reese grease but, I'm sure glad I did this time.
For short trips, the Mystik JT-6 Grease would be just fine but, it wears out quickly. Many higher-end repair shops use Mystik products & consider them to be of premium quality.
I use the JT-6 on suspension parts & to re-pack my trailer bearings, annually. The bearing grease is mostly still red with some of it starting to darken when I change it.
I'm beginning to wonder if there is a better product for me to use. Any thoughts, suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.
