Grease and lube questions, help a newb out

I just bought my first grease gun, and some Sta-Lube Moly Graph Lithium Grease. Is this a good grease?

I also put some silicone lubricant on the hinges of my car doors. I had a can from when I was doing something else. Its seems to be working okay, but I was wondering if there was something better? I was looking it up online, and most of what I read said to use lithium grease. There was even a picture of a guy using a paint brush, and globing it on there. It seems to me that would just make a huge mess collect a bunch of dirt.

To be honest I really like oil, grease, and lube, but I don't know that much about all the different types. I'm not looking to become an expert, but would like gain some general knowledge.

In a grease gun you mainly want chassis grease for zerk fittings. Its not a high heat grease and not overly waterproof. But it does not need to be. For disc brakes you need a tube of Syl-Glide from NAPA. Door hinges need something that will work its way into the hinge, I use chain lubricant. You can make it a bit messy and wipe most of it off in a day or two.

Boat trailers need marine grease.

I hope you got a level grease gun as it has more pressure when you run into a stuck fitting.

I have 3 grease guns one of which is a pneumatic. Maybe I will need a cordless one, never can tell.

For my brakes I just used one of those little packets they sell at the counter, but I'll try and get some sly-glide next time.

So the grease I got isn't good for chassis? I thought Moly was good.

I guess I could use some chain oil for my bike that I never ride. I use to use it when I was drunk, or going to be drinking, but now I just either stay home or make my girlfriend drive. Plus I moved, and there is a grocery store across the street. I'll just walk there if I need more beer.

I do not believe lithium grease is the right stuff for normal zerk fittings on land vehicles or machinery. They should sell a heavy duty semi synthetic grease. But most vehicles do not have grease fittings. Farm, construction and trucks still do.

Now that you mention it, I haven't seen any grease fitting on my 91 pickup. And the only thing on the fsm is packing the bearings with grease. It says to use Lithium base multipurpose grease (NLGI No.2, I had to work on it not to long ago and used wheel bearing grease that I got at the part store. I wouldn't mind doing the bearing some time in the near future if I can find some that aren't made in China.

I've had older 70's vehicles in the past that had grease fitting, but that was a long time ago.

My floor jack has a grease fitting, and I've been meaning to lube it. The grease I got should be okay for that right?
