I was glad all the money other than parts went to the mechanic. Everything was done in 1.5 hours.

All that in 1.5 hours? Wow...

Timing belt + water pump + belts + O2 sensor + wheel alignment done under 1.5 hours? Even youtube videos running in fast forward mode can not do that! I want to have that pharma product that you or your mechanic is taking :-)

P.S. And exactly how did mechanic did wheel alignment "under the table"? Has a he stashed a Hunter machine under his bed?

You acomplish alot when the boss goes home. I had a hard time beleaving it myself. We dropped it off, went to dinner, came back he was finishing up bleading the cooling system. It didnt seem to run bad before but it does seem to run better now.

Did you get the old parts back? I hate to say but you might have gotten a "wall job". $250 for 1.5 hour? That is like $175 per hour, your friend should be high power attorney to make that kind of money :-)

Seriously, there was a youtube video posted here recently about sludge cleanup. It was a time-lapsed photography but you could see the steps involved. It would give you an idea about wall clock time needed to do simple things.

The work that was claimed to be done on your vehicle does not seem to be physically possible to be completed in 1.5 hours unless done by the superman.

A good mechanic would be able to complete that job in about 4 to 5 hours and $250 is the fair (generous) price for it. Book rate would be more than 4 hours.

Which Toyota we are talking about?

P.S. Don't take this wrong way; when the timing belt was changed on my van, he wanted to have the van for the whole day and did not want me to hang around. I trust the mechanic but I still insisted to get the old parts back. This is like Regan's "Trust but verify" doctrine :-)

Got all the parts back. I didnt even ask for the parts. He said some customers like to look at the originals. I looked at the original belt at 90K...still looked the same as the one that came off. The truck does run better and doesnt pull to the left like it used too. I would say everything was legit.

You have found a gem of mechanic! Hold on to him. Does the sop have their own alignment machine?

1.5 hours for all that work is a bit too quick. Granted, he works for a Toyota dealership so he probably does those all day. I would check those old parts to see it included any nuts and bolts he didn't put back in. Faster does not equal better.
