got recall done today and they tested battery

Electronics can act funny if battery voltage is low or not consistent.Low cranking amps means a lower battery total capacity, and more than likely a higher than normal internal resistance (ability to accept a charge).Retest it,but replace it if it fails the next test. Its going to cause problems.

oh, ok. I can get a new Autocraft Silver and two FL820S filters for $70.75+tx after core refund. So I might just go ahead if it needs it. Do they have a phone app?

They probably do a free 77 point check on every car that comes in, to set a baseline and of course upsell. They probably checked your ATF, coolant, tire pressure etc and it was fine so they left you alone on that.

Midtronics thinks ~60% of original CCA is okay. If you got a little thermal paper strip printout it was probably from a Midtronics device. This infers CCA by running an AC current through the battery and detecting its impedance, pretty cool and easy on the battery unlike a carbon pile.

It'd be a good time to start thinking about a replacement, I guess, if you're proactive.

My 2009 V8 Colorado started to crank a little slow on cold mornings when the original battery got down to 300 CCA. I got 4 good years out of it. Went ahead and installed a new AZ Duralast Gold before it left me stranded somewhere.

Id consider it. That seems pretty low in terms of capacity. Doubling of impedance or 20% loss of capacity would be an end of life to me.

nope. I don't think they did any inspection. It was not on the sheet (they usually flag .3 hr for one) and I was not offered one. I think their computer probably told them. No printout, just pen writing from the tech on the print sheet of recall work done.

Tire Kingdom told me my newish Group 35 (640 CCA) was needed to replaced. The car came with a Group 51R (500 CCA). They also told my just replaced coolant and transmission fluid (by me) needed to be changed. I only asked for them to take a look at my tires after getting a bumpy ride and give me a quote. They were having a sale, only reason I stopped in. Even with the sale it was cheaper to buy the exact same tires on tirerack.com and have a local installer install them. Tire were delaminating, which caused the bouncing feeling.
