The smart meters in Illinois enable "time of use pricing" called the hourly rate. They send you letters about how much you could have saved last year, but you're not guaranteed to save anything. The cost of electricity can skyrocket for just a few days of the year and wipe out your potential savings.
Don't sign up for any special billing from the electric company except maybe level billing. We don't need it because I save money like mad, I don't ever spend money I don't need to. But it makes the bill predictable and I still am mindful that we need "deficit months" to make sure the bill doesn't start to creep up.
They're talking about massive utility rate hikes this year, both because the PJM interconnect is raising our Capacity Charge and because the Illinois Commerce Commission approved rate hikes for "upgrades" of I think over $166 billion dollars over the next several years.
The State is prioritizing moving to zero carbon. The federal government can do whatever it wants to but it's ultimately the States that decide what the plan is for energy.
I like not having the NRG coal plant going a mile from my home, spewing all that toxic garbage into the air.

How do they do Time Of Use with an analog meter? I was going to ask if when you got your meter changed that you switched to TOU also from Tiered, but your new bill shows TOU.
I currently pay 10.4 cents/kWh. Our co-op just announced slight price increases for the first time in over a decade. Everyone is on edge 
$372.30 for a 30 day cycle assuming the same usage.
My 1440 kWh bill would’ve been $662 with your rates. It was $144 last month.

NY State Electric & Gas just swapped out my ~50yr/old meter with a smart meter this AM. I'm bracing for it.. Some friends and acquaintances of mine have complained about astronomical jumps in their bill after the install. The young fella that did the install (took about 1min) threw the security "lock" he cut off in the snow about 30ft from the meter. I discovered it later when out walking with the dogs. Nice. The hang tag they're supposed to hang on your door with a brief description of the situation was laying in the slush at the end of my driveway.
