Let us know how your next electric bill is given the recent "polar" weather.
Is this your first year in home?
I live in a 2600SF 1910 home that has so-so insulation with thermostat at 66F and burn about 1000 gallon(~$2.70/gal) of home heating fuel per year although it also supplies domestic hot water for family of 5. A $500 electric bill is not out of line if that electric is covering hot water beyond heating needs. For comparison what is your normal electric bill in summer/non heating months?
Lastly do you have a ton of older Christmas lights out that are non led outside? We used the old school bulbs this year with around 400 watts worth and found our electric bill a bit higher running lights about 50% of day. My electric bill spikes to $10 per 600W of oil radiator heaters in 2 kids rooms set quite low for 8hrs at night. I love my sleep so worth it.
