In the past I mentioned how high our electric bill is every month. Never less than $600 and in the summer with evaporative cooler going $1000+.

BTW we have LED lights and sit in the dark instead of lighting up the house.

This started when the put in a smart meter on our house. I complained and Edison didn't care.

My wife found a way to get an old school meter put back on the house so we did that. Only negative is that they charge $15 to drive out and actually read the meter.

Still cheaper than the stupid defective smart meter we had.

Got our bill for last month with the new meter installed....

to read the non-smart meter (analog) you look at the arrows and always use the lower number. For example the second in from the right, on your picture, notice how it's before 6? So you'd go with 5 for that number being read.

In this case it looks like the number read is 90550, you can verify it's correct by looking at your old bill, should have a number reported that they read. And your number should just be a little higher than the old one.

We lived out in the boonies when I was a kid, and we had to read our own power meter, and then mail that reading to the Electric Cooperative, who would then mail you a bill.

They fought us every step of the way
I'd be tempted to go off grid. I know gas ain't cheap but burn me enough times and I'll go away. [Yes that's like cutting off my nose to spite my face. But I'd sure be tempted.]

Interesting, I end up with a different number than you:
00559

actually we're both partially correct.. It is always the lower number that you take in the analog meters.. thanks for the correction. So it would be 00550. And about the 9 you had? Look at the last number it's definitely 0.

Doesn't look like I can edit my other post. so hopefully @Chris142 will see the correction.

I'm taking it as being past the 9, but not quite at the 0 yet and the one before it being almost at the 6, so 59.

You mentioned the cost went way up. Did your monthly KWH go up compared to historical data when the smart meter was installed?
