I agree with Al, Pablo and Mike. As I stated in another thread most lawyers would like to be held in the same regard as doctors when in fact they are thought of more like used car salesman or snake oil peddlers.

Are you going to be an attorney? Prosecuting or defense? (Please say prosecuting!!) Seriously, you must have some good brains...good luck to you and congrats!

AstroVic,

Congratulations on your selection. I know you and your family can be proud.
We have quite a few lawyers on the board as members and they are tops. One of our members was practicing law in a Southern State and was recalled to Active Duty during the recent callup. He is a Marine Corps Reservist. He is a Marine Corps pilot and also a Lawyer. In fact he was just selected for promotion to Colonel. (0-6) If you have any questions on career path or recommendations you could contact him. EkPolk and he is member #3733. There are others on the board and I am sure they would also be pleased to give you advice if you desire.

Please don't join your future brethren in ruining our country further. Do something useful with that law degree rather than be a lawyer.

Or be a constructive lawyer - transactional or tax.

congratulations! I was heading down the same path when I graduated from college but 90 plus percent of anyone I told would give me negative feedback about my career choice so I went to a different path. I kinda wish I went to law school instead. You have to realize though, I didn't at the time, anyone whose been through a divorce and the wife got most of the assets. her lawyer or lawyers in general is on the shiat list. This is where the mantra "must hate lawyers for life attitude" starts

Congratulations, You have been accepted by a good school so should be able to do well when you graduate. It's tough field with an excess of people in it.

A lawyer is a persons last line of defense against overzealous incompetent law enforcement and crooked corporations. Go for it.

Seriously AstroVic I mean nothing malicious. I wish you the best. But I do have issues with lawyers....

In some cases, yes....but for sure lawyers want you to believe this with all their heart...in reality lawyers are the last line to your wallet. Real examples:

1) Jim Bakker, swindler extraordinary, never a Christian, paid a $3,700,000 settlement for fraud. Lawyers got $2,500,000, individuals got $6.54 each.

2) Sears in 2003 paid a settlement for improper wheel balancing. Lawyers got $2.5 million. People with shredded tires, etc, got $2.50 each.

3) Bank with lawsuit over improper interest. Lawyers get $8.5 million. Customers each get $10 and a bill for $91 in legal fees.

Anything can be done wrong, picking a lawyer is a lot easier to do wrong than most things.
