Has anyone else noticed this over the past few days? Google is really slow and just locks up for several seconds.

Not for me... I'm using it now, and had used it a lot yesterday. Maybe something wrong with your ISP relaying the message to google. This sometimes happens.

It's working semi good now, but it still sketches out every few hours. Also, any website that uses Google ad syndication is slow for me. It'd driving me nutz!

Try connecting your internet directly to your computer and not using the router if possible and see if its better, you might have a "flaking out" router.

I never use Google anymore. It used to be my favorite search engine but Google tries to gather too much information on people and they are always trying to get you to use their software. I don't want to use their software and I don't like having the stuff pushed at me. So if Google is slow I don't care. It does not affect me. I could not possibly care less about Google's Chrome or whatever it is called web browser, their toolbar, their BHO or whatever it is, etc. And I do not appreciate their trying to gather information on everybody.

Same thing with Yahoo! actually. I really don't want their software either. I don't need their toolbar or BHO or whatever it is.

There needs to be more competition when it comes to search engines and there needs to be competition for YouTube also.

Everybody complains about Microsoft but I don't see Microsoft trying to force their stuff on people. And the stuff that Microsoft does have like Windows Live! Mail is professional quality stuff that you really want to have.

Mystic, why not use VMWare Player or Sun Virtual box, both are free, to browse the web with a generic Linux distro such as Ubuntu just to, and only browse the web?

When you're done browsing, have the VM revert to previous snapshot so nothing, nada, zero is saved from the browsing sessions. This keeps khrapware & all the other trended browsing history stuff a thing of the past.

You still have to use IE to download Windows updates unless a person is going to use Linux just for the internet and a Windows computer not hooked up to the internet for working on photos. Of course you could use like you say special software that will run in Windows and effectively have Linux for exploring the internet. I don't like to get into all of that complication unless necessary, although if things really get bad on the internet it is worth keeping in mind.

I don't have anything to be ashamed of in my internet use but I don't take kindly to information being gathered on me and then available for anybody else. Just type your name in the Google search engine and see what you might come up with.

A long time ago Yahoo! was my favorite web search engine and then Google for a long time. From my point of view Google has gone bad. I don't like for somebody's dingy software to be pushed on me and a lot of information gathered about me. So I just have written off Google and Yahoo!. They can both cease to exist as far as I am concerned.

Google has become way too powerful. A good example of what happens when there is not adequate competition. There really should be something like at least 10 different search engines for people to choose between. And there needs to be some serious competition for YouTube also-it is my understanding that YouTube is owned by Google.

There may be some decent search engines I am not aware of. I am going to search around and see if I can find a new group of choices for search engines. But Google and Yahoo! are historical from my point of view.

I have not done much of a search but I have already found some alternative search engines. There is Altavista, for example, and Dogpile that uses all of the various search engines to find results. And of course MSN. So who really needs Google and Yahoo!?

Google often solves my computer problems within the first 3 hits.

I'd like to use alternatives, but they don't have that kind of accuracy.

I'm sure your searches are normal. However, a word count shows you use the noun "I" more frequently in your posts than I use it in my posts. You ought to be ashamed.
