I installed google chrome the other day to see if it would improve the performance of my computer and it did that day. But ever since... it constantly crashes. Anyone else experience this or should I go back to using Firefox.

I tried it and it immediately frustrated me after using Firefox for so long.

Couldn't figure out easy ways to use private browsing that made me feel comfortable.

I had to format anyway as an SSD that I am using as the C: drive was getting full of junk and I had no space left on the drive.

I will never bother with Chrome again unless there is a clear advantage to doing so.

Firefox just works very well for me I guess.

I've been using Chrome for about 4 years, maybe closer to 4.5 years. I remember I got it very shortly after it was released to the public.

I've used it on 4 different computers, two phones and two tablets. It's crashed a few times, but never anything severe.

Nope. Have been using it since v2.0. Extremely stable across all my computers and even my Android phone.

Honestly, until you post more info, condemning a browser just because it crashed on your computer is pretty pointless.

Something else going on somewhere with your system. I use Chrome exclusively on my home PC's and it works fine.
The only issues I have with Chrome are high res Flash performance. If I want to stream 1080P Youtube to my TV, I have to use something other than Chrome (performance issues) but stability wise and for regular browsing, it works like a champ.

I've never had high-res Flash issues, even when streaming stuff higher than 1080p from YouTube.

I don't use the built-in flash, though. I disable that and install the standalone.

You have to know how to do that which most folks don't. I learned as my browser crashed constantly all of the sudden and found that was the culprit.

I am web browser versed as I am a web application developer but use Chrome for personal(not supported at my company) and FireFox for development. I did not know about Chrome flash, it really should just work or Chrome should push a fix.

I think it mostly happens when on You Tube.

I've been having a lot of problems the last 2-3 weeks.
It turns out today my cable Internet failed to connect altogether. Solution to that was demating and remating all the connectors from the demarc to my modem. The cable and connectors are about 1 year old and all tested good to DC, but somehow degraded enough to not work.

Point is: packets were being dropped, more and more, in the last 2-3 weeks. What I've determined is DNS lookups that get dropped cause an extremely unpleasant browser experience, far worse than you'd think. Overall, the error rate looked low enough that I wouldn't have worried, but, if an error takes out a DNS lookup, well, it's very, very destructive to a web page load.

Did the "Install Google Chrome" button bully you into installing? Its easy to get of of if you want to go back to firefox and stick a middle finger in the eye of greedy monopoly builders.

I fail to see how switching back to Firefox is sticking anything in the eye of Google. If they didn't want people to use Firefox they wouldn't be paying most of the cost for its development.

few years back, when we first downloaded google chrome too our dell deskptop, it crashed ALOT. took me some searching, and i found a answer online.

turns out, firefox and chrome in the same pc werent happy together they said.

im no pc expert, but as soon as i removed firefox files and program, and restarted the desktop, chrome hasnt crashed since.

like i said, im no pc guru, just found some people on cnet with same issue.

if firefox is working good and you like it, stay with it.

personally, chrome is more stable for what our family uses it for and is easy too work in incognito mode for privacy control.

good luck with your crashing issue!

I have never been able to figure out how to get Chrome's flash to perform well. If I use IE10 or Firefox to stream Youtube to my TV it's flawless, if I use Chrome, it stutters. Simple solution, I don't use Chrome.

For everything else, it works great.
