Goodbye RAM EcoDiesel

No hate from me. I canned the idea after doing a lot of research and uncovering quite a few problems. I would have loved to have a vehicle powered by one, but I didn't need to invest a small fortune to see if my homework was done correctly or not. It was easier and cheaper to can the idea. It might have been canned in the RAM pickup for the same reasons I canned it.
Yeah apparently they're solid engines if you spend several thousand replacing or removing all the OEM acronyms.

I think stellantis could have went with a different supplier. If I remember correctly VM Motori was the supplier that was used in the Jeep Commander. Not sure whom else they could have used. Early engines had issues but didn't they more or less even out over the las few years?

Most all makes have some problems. The Chrysler 3.6 Pentastar has lots of issues like the oil cooler system leaking. The Ford Ecoboost and it's timing chain system. GM's DOD. You're just trading one problem for another. I had a VM Motori in a Jeep Liberty with nearly 300,000 miles so they can't be all bad.

VM Motori makes a lot of engines. Did your liberty have EGR, DPF, SCR, etc?

I have enough problems with engines with a good history of longevity without buying something that is not proven to be reliable. I like to go on Amazon, Ebay or a local parts store and get any part I need many years later if I still own the vehicle.

It's really a shame because it could have been a good, reliable engine if they hadn't gotten so chintzy with cheap parts in the wrong places. If they would have offered the Cummins straight 6 turbo diesel in the Grand Cherokee, I would have bought it in a heartbeat.
Could a Grand Cherokee handle the Cummins? It weighs almost 1100 lbs, twice as much as the Hemis. I like the idea of it, but wonder if the GC is stout enough to handle it. Maybe a modern Ramcharger based on the truck chassis.

I don't see why not. It's offered with an air suspension and has a 7,200 lb. towing capacity with the HEMI. (7,400 lb. with 2WD).
