Next week I am going to take this roof rack apart; I need to remove the plastic trim strips beneath it to repair the clear-coat on them.

While I have it off, I thought I would put some fresh paint on the aluminum bars. They are faded a bit, one or two chips but not much; I'll take the plastic end caps fully off and rubber inserts out and clean it well. They have a slightly rough texture to them, not smooth. Priorities are:

a) fade resistant
b) good chip resistance

I usually go w/Rustoleum but don't know if they have UV resistant black? Or what would be best for that.

PJ1 fast black epoxy paint has worked well for me in the past. Lasts 3-4 years on wiper arms before needing a new coat.
I used the flat black on those because I don't want the sunrise/sunset beaming off of them and into my eyes.

Rust-oleum "Topside" marine grade paint has UV protection that the regular version does not have. Once I discovered this, I stopped using regular Rust-oleum.
