I wanan try Rislone soon, for my next oil change. Some oils, like havoline, have robust additive packages, like mily ect! Others, like shell, castrol, Valvoline, have weaker additive packs.... which would be idealistic, to use with RIslone? A really good add pack or weaker or weak add pack?

Since Rislone doesn't have much in the way of traditional oil additives (zinc, phosphorus, etc), I would think an oil with a stronger additive package would be useful, maybe an SL or a fleet (dual rated gas and diesel) oil would be good. What is the purpose to run Rislone?

I used Rislone 30 years ago with Castrol GTX 20W-50...and I doubt it did any good then.

I'd pick a good modern oil and avoid Rislone.

Lube Control LC-20 is worth trying.

ARX is worth trying.

Valvoline Synthetic Oil Treatment is worth trying.

But not Rislone, IMHO.

I've used the small add anytime bottle of Rislone on 3 different cars. Hard to say if it did anything benefical, and it certainly didn't do any harm. The Walmart in town where I was buying the Rislone had a large price increase on it within the past few months, the small bottle was 4.99 and the large one was 5.99, the price went up to 6.50 for the small bottle and 8.50 for the large one.

I desludged a stuck lifter in a 3.8L DCX minivan once with rislone and a 1000 mile treatment. It worked fine. I used it at the advice of a friend in Detroit who is a valvetrain design engineer. But acording to him the trick is never go beyond 1500 miles with that stuff.

I ran Rislone continuously in my '84 F150 from about 3000 miles (waited for breakin) to 175,000 miles when I sold it. It now has well over 200,000 miles and still runs great. I have to say the truck still developed a lifter that got noisy for a while on cold mornings, but that was after well over 150,000 miles. I think the stuff is the consistency of ATF and has a penetrating oil that may do some good for certain situations. I have no plans to use it anymore though.

Well, the purpose i wanna try RIslone(the quart sized bottle), jsut once, is because ive read about it all over online....people that used it, semed ot have used Havoline(coincidence maybe) adn ran it for 1,500 to 1,700 miles maximum..they all bragged about all the junk and crud that came outta thier oil pan, so i am naturally,, curious too see what ahppens, thats all. I am aware of the dont drive it over 1,500 miles key.:) I am already almost done with an auto rx 2nd rinse phase, meaning iive run it back to back, for a total of 2 cleans, and 2 rinses. Just thoughtabout some stuff, like people here say valvoline has a weak add pack, but dostn varnish the engine up as bad, other oils like havoline, have lots of moly....my theory/idea is, since moly coats the parts in engine, maybe it wont let rislone do as good a s job, as an oil with a weaker additive pack...
any ideas?

I've used the quart jug of Rislone a few times over the years for alleviating engine ticks - but for cleaning, I doubt it would do much good. Stick with Auto-Rx.
