CT is giving us another option from their plethora of Fram filters: The Valvoline Max Life Filter. I saw them on the shelves for the first time yesterday for $7.99.

The good news is that printed on the box it reads: "Manufactured by Purolator". These filters join the new Quaker State "white" filters that also are manufactured by Purolator.

The only problem is that the selection is limited and more shelf space is dedicated to Fram's Extra Guard and the house branded Motomaster (Fram) filters.

Its only a good news if you really have to go to CT.A wix at Carquest or Napa is cheaper.

But thanks for sharing, its always good to know !!

I'm curious about the max life filter. It could end up being a good deal if it's a silicone ADBV, synthetic media filter.

Out of curiousity.. how much are they at napa? I don't have carquest near me.. so I won't even bother asking bout it

A napa gold 1040 is 6.33 + tax.
At Carquest were 5.83 + tax a few month ago.

I looked at the maxlife filter and quaker state filter today at Can.Tire.
Maxlife 7.99 + tax
Q.S 5.99 + tax

Both look the very same , Maxilife made by purolator( said so on the box)

No silicone, both have black ABDV and rubber seal

Hey cool, I'll have to keep an eye out next time I'm at CT. It could be a good buy if they go on sale. It's nice that Fram is losing a bit of its deathgrip on store shelves....

The new Max Life filters seem to be PremiumPlus filters at first glance. The ADBV is nitrile, not silicone... then again don't those Motorcraft filters come with nitrile too?

What else distinguishes PremiumPlus filters from PureONEs? Can't remember...

Having recently discovered about these Baldwin brand filters and that Acklands-Grainger carries them makes me wonder if this is moot though. Those also run around $8 and seem like nicer filters...

I don't know, Canadian Tire has pulled the 3?69 oil filter for my car entirely. They used to have the Fram and Special House Brand version there. It's not available at Wal-Mart either. Oh well...I'll just order a case of them from elsewhere so me and my brother have enough.

I took a look at these max life filters and some have a silicone and some have the black nitrile ADBV.

What gives?

Long time ago a chemist showed me a quick and dirty way to tell silicone from other elastomers. Take a piece and burn it. Silicone will leave white ash, carbon-based elastomers will leave black ash.

Silicone is orange whereas the nitrile is black in most instances.
