Does anyone know what regions/areas of California have the big problems of:
1. Wildfires
2. Earthquakes
3. Mudslides
Also, when I was there a guy said ya'll/they (Californians) didn't have to worry about insects/bugs like we did in the South. That would be very welcome as I absolutely without a doubt hate mosquitos and ticks.

Your forgot the fourth season in CA: riots.
Mosquitoes spread West Nile not only to horses, but also to humans in CA. Rodents often carry plague, the Black Death.

Wild fire is anywhere that's hot and near vegetation. The summer heat turns all the hills yellow and that's wild fire risk. Unless you buy a home next to the bush you will be fine.
Earthquake is anywhere near the fault line, that means anywhere that's not hot, along the coast. There's a fault line map somewhere.

Is it true there are no bugs in California?
I was at Pacifica a few years back and was talking with this gentleman on the beach. I told him I was from Mississippi and he said that they didn't have bugs like I deal with. I'm mostly concerned with mosquitos and ticks. Ants, wasps, bees are welcome.

my father lived in san diego and said they didn't have much work....he didn't notice much price difference than say FL or WI....he now lives in Palm Desert, Coachella Valley/Cat City or something.....lol he tells me something different every time I ask him 
But I "think" it's Cathedral City, and yea, it's got city buses running, etc....prices aren't too bad.

If you can make a living in these places, I suggest the towns of Taft and Barstow. I think the living in both is cheap but you need a job or money coming in from somewhere. I drove to Barstow today to see the Route 66 Museum. The town is nice and clean, but there are a lot of boarded up businesses & homes.
Unless you're in the oil industry why live in Taft? Unless you work for the USMC or at a truck stop or old-folk's home why live in Barstow?

Personally, I like Barstow. Not too many soldiers are visible around Barstow these days for some reason. I speculate that they might have more recreational opportunities on base these days. The desert nearby has some fascinating places to visit. I have good memories of that town going back a long time. The summer thunderstorms are spectacular.
It has a Long John Silver fish restaurant, the Route 66 Museum, (and for this forum) an Auto Zone, an O'Reilley's, a NAPA store, and a Walmart all in very close proximity. For a crossroads town, it has a good nightlife as well.
The oil industry in Taft is fading out. Taft is a very quiet town.
