I think its time to run a can of injector cleaner through my Honda. Any recommendations? I would like to stick to easily obtainable, off-the-shelf items. I have some ideas already but would like to hear what the brain trust has to say. I'd like to use the Chevron Techron additive, but I've never seen it here in NW Ohio. Beyond the recommendation, I would appreciate the reasons why you use/prefer the additive you mention. Many thanks.

Redline Injector Cleaner can be found at PepBoys, its pretty strong.

I've used Redline, Techron and FP60 in the past in an old 98 Civic...and the car still gets 38 miles per gallon. I'm sure gas mileage would have gone down over the years if I didn't use any injector cleaners in my wife's Honda.

BTW,

Home Depot is getting rid of GumOut brand injector cleaner. I have never used GumOut before....but I hear its also a pretty good injector cleaner.

Ive used almost EVERYTHING available...
Ide recommend, BGK(usualy its available from the parts area of a chyrsler dealer), Redline complete fuel sysutem cleaner, B12 chemtool in a can, and Lucas complete fuel system cleaner, i thought, next to redline performed the best! As over the counter remidies. Chevron techron, and valvoline fuel injecotr or complete fuel system cleaners, are very good, but not as good as the first ones mentioned.

Im still using Lucas UCL and after several tanks (greater than 5) my car runs smooth as silk. I'm a believer in it, not to mention my city fuel economy is up +1mpg on average.

Menard's always has Gumout REGANE for like $3.82 around me. At Wal-Mart (where oil is cheap), it's $5.32.

I have been using FP60 in my jeep and wifes cavalier for over two years now and they both purr like a kitten. MEOW!!!!!!!!

I use B-12 Chemtool (metal 16 oz can) 2 or 3 times a year for a good cleaning agent; I use Supertech Concentrated Fuel Injector cleaner (black plastic bottle) every 1 1/2 months or so in between the Chemtool; if I am going to be doing any highway driving (eg: running to parents home and back), I use Supertech Gas treatment (red plastic bottle)...I have done this for the last 3 vehicles that I have owned and have not had fuel system problems

Thanks, all, for the thoughtful replies. I found the Techron and added it to a fresh tankful of $2.13 cent gas!!! Drove for a about 30 miles of spirited driving (which I call an "Italian Tuneup) and I could swear I noticed a pretty rapid upgrade in performance.

I like both FP60 and Redline SI-1.

I've seen marked improvements (over time) with SI-1 and FP60.

Nothing 'amazing' per se. Just sometimes a car with less stumble in the idle.. or .5mpg increase (which every little bit helps, right?).

In fact, I have plans to run a full bottle of SI-1 through my 98 VR6 in the next week. I just gassed up (after a full tank of 91 octane + 6 oz of FP)..

It's probably overkill, as the FP60 probably cleaned most of the crud out of the system.. but it certainly won't hurt.

I've had this bottle of SI-1 sitting around for a while, since all I ran was FP60 in my RAV4.

I would suggest using any strong FI cleaner right before you change the oil. Even Techron states not to do it more than every 1K miles, and some have said that it may wear your add-pack down if you have enough of it blowby the rings. I wouldn't go out and change the oil just because you did it, but in the future I would just add it to the list of things to do before you change you oil.

I've used Techron several times (I bought a 4 pack at Costco) and I can't tell you it did any benefit or not. I use FP60 in every tank now and I do see better engine idle and MPG performance.

The Techron I see at Costco around here is the lesser strength 'proguard' or a name something like that, and not the more expensive 'concentrate' formulation. The concentrate is usually about $3-4 a bottle more at a parts store.

Tell him what he has won Bob...

You are absolutely correct about that - good point. Never knew that until I came to this board. Maybe that is probably why I never noticed any improvement. Then again, I always used top tier gasoline so maybe my FI weren't in that bad of shape to begin with.
